Villa Serena welcomed us with a candid smile on an unusually cold morning, the solemn air of an event was slowly dissipated as people started to arrive and a sense of community started forming. The silence claimed by the rising sun was diluted in the crescent whisper of a friendly breakfast. The blue sky and sea formed the background, highlighting a pink shine. In the clothes, scenery, and in the minds of those present, was the reason behind this meeting.
This Saturday Coparmex realized an event looking to support and help the fight against breast cancer. Framed by the beauty of the Restaurant Villa Serena, medics, survivors, and the general public gathered to raise funds for Los Cabos Woman’s Wellness Foundation AC.
A terrace beside Villa Serene’a pool presented us with a clear view of the and served as the stage for this altruistic reunion, one by one, groups of friends and families entered this stage and became part of this scenography, we all prepared for the show of love and support, a performance of union for an important cause.
First Call: As people started to fill the tables Villa Serena’s service started to take orders. The formality of an event turns into a calm breakfast outside.
Second Call: Coffees are served and the background music gets replaced by a live piano performance. The sweet feeling of kinship is only interrupted by the usual sounds of a microphone being set and adjusted.
The voices echoed by the microphone are the words of women, of medics, of survivors, of people who have spent their lives helping others fight against this disease.
Through their words, they look to raise awareness about the alarming statistics that surround breast cancer, about how much this can improve with a proper culture of self-examination and actively taking part in your health.
The quiet returns to its morning as these voices speak about the importance of those surrounding the people that are going through this fight. The economic aid that these events bring is important, and it can’t be understated how much they help people through the worst period of their lives, but it’s not the only way to help. In testimonies is described the fear and hopelessness that the word “cancer” brings to a patient and their family. The importance of communication and understanding to help those in need is brought to the front of this stage.
The curtain falls, everyone finishes his breakfast, some gifts are given to those present. A check for 10 thousand Mexican pesos is given to Los Cabos Woman’s Wellness Foundation AC. In the air is the hope of sharing the words we heard, of passing these testimonies to the world around us. Of keep helping this cause. I hope to be doing my part.
