Fishing – Fish Like a Pro in Los Cabos
Sport Fishing in Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, México.
Cabo San Lucas is known as the “Marlin Capital of the World” and deservedly so, as there are more marlin caught here than any other place on earth. Unlike other well-known sport fishing destinations, where days, and many dollars can be spent in pursuit of this most prized sport fish, it is not unusual to capture one or even more on your very first trip, whether you are a beginner or an expert. Once reserved for the wealthy, sportfishing in Cabo is now within reach of almost all visitors and an encounter not to be missed. Not only will you experience the thrill of battling a creature of incredible beauty and size, or landing smaller species and eating them, your fishing excursion gives you an opportunity to view the Cape and its landmarks from a unique perspective and often allows you to get a close up look at whales, dolphins and seals. Excerpt from Cabo Sportfishing article by Tracy Ehrenberg, the owner and manager of Pisces Fishing Fleet.
Cabo San Lucas Fishing Article by George Landrum
“Nine yellow fin tuna, four over 150 pounds and the others around one hundred pounds, in one day, for two anglers fishing within two miles of the shore. Repeat that for three days and you have a fishery unequaled anywhere.” Zane Grey. Zane Grey was writing about the fishing at Cape San Lucas over 80 years ago in the book, Fishing Virgin Seas. But like everywhere else in the world, things change.
Back in Zane Grey’s day, there was only one way to get to Cabo San Lucas, and that was by boat. You faced an 800-mile trip down the Pacific coast and carried everything with you. At Cape San Lucas, there were no hotels, no roads… nada. Since 1974, a highway has run down the Baja California peninsula from Tijuana all the way to Cabo San Lucas—now an easy three-day drive across some spectacular desert country.
The International Airport in San José del Cabo, 27 miles north of Cabo San Lucas, brings over a million visitors a year while accommodations ranging from small hostels to world class resorts provide for all tastes and pocketbooks. Some of the best golf courses in the world, and of course, the fishing, add up to a very attractive vacation package. Excerpt from Los Cabos Magazine article – Issue #10 – January 2006 – By Captain George Landrum.
