The U.S. City of Houston, Texas, recently hosted a festive weekend of wine and delicious cuisine during their Lone Star state Food Festival event that was held on Saturday, June 16, 2019 at Midtown Park. In a surprising announcement at the Food Festival awards, winning second place of the Taco contest, was Chef David Sanz, of the Casa Dorada Los Cabos Resort & Spa hotel. An award which captured the attention of Mexico and earned praise for Baja Calfornia Sur.
On their Facebook account, the Consulate of Mexico in Houston, posted the following statement immediately after the contest awards were presented to the Top Three in each category, “We congratulate Chef David Sanz for having obtained the second place in the competition for the best taco of the event! #Mexican pride.”
Chef David Sanz was the food and beverage supervisor at the Ritz Carlton, Cancun for 4-years, hotel and restaurant manager at Casa de Los Suenos, Moon Palace Resort Golf and Spa, Grand Velas Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen, and a few others in the southeastern vacation paradise Mexican State of Quintana Roo, before moving to Cab San Lucas, Baja California Sur. The American Southwestern state of Texas food festival event is approved by the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in their efforts to promote Los Cabos and Mexico’s traditional culinary diversity and taco-making expertise.
More than 1.5 million people follow the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico Facebook Page, which posted on June 15 at 3:24 PM that, ”Northern Mexico is famous for the quality of its cattle and today, Saturday, they are already preparing for a delicious “carne asada”, which is a Mexico tradition that brings people together and celebrate the delicious cuts of meat at this Houston, Texas food festival event.”.
On Wednesday, June 19 at 11:00 AM, Casa Dorada Los Cabos Resort & Spa sponsored a press conference in its restaurant “12 Tribes”; providing for a semi-private, public celebration of Chef David Sanz second place award in the taco contest.
