Sabor a Cabo 2015
The 10th International Food and Wine event did not disappoint; in fact, it exceeded the expectations of those responsible for the event and for the 2,000 who attended the finale held on the evening of Saturday, December 5.
Preceding the final event were other activities such as the Beer Fest on December 2 and the Art Walk on December 3. Sabor a Cabo, or Taste of Cabo, with its theme of “Simmering…a tribute to Mexico’s roots”, was under the sponsorship of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, Rubin Reachi, Managing Director and leadership of Alfonso Vazquez Olivas, President of Sabor a Cabo.
A dozen wineries and more than 40 top chefs from local restaurants wined and dined the attending gourmands. Inaugurated by Carlos Mendoza, governor of Baja California Sur and Arturo de la Rosa, Mayor of Los Cabos, the event was a sight to behold with white tents, special lighting, and a large stage set on the rolling greens of the Campestre Golf Course in San Jose del Cabo. Others accompanying the dignitaries for the opening were Hugo Vela Reyna, National President of CANIRAC, the restaurant association, and Gianmarco Vela, President of CANIRAC Los Cabos.
Headliner singer, song-writer and Grammy Award winner, Lila Downs, entertained with her flamboyant and diverse repertoire with voice and guitar based around Mexico indigenous people’s styles, cultures and heritage. Her music carries a message of social justice intertwined with Latin American pride, with a fusion of jazz, to the enjoyment of the crowd. Preceding the show and to set the tone of what was to follow was a presentation of fantasma, with figures dressed in costume intermingling throughout the crowd and a large screen projecting indigenous art found throughout the Baja.
Proceeds from the event assist the Los Cabos Fire Department and the efforts of Los Cabos Children’s Foundation.
