Magical Musical Tour, Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, México

Jazz on Board –  Starry night, cool breeze and the soothing sound of the waves caressing the ship’s hull, plus an ambience full of musical Jazz notes. Cabo Rey put the ocean touch into the San Jose  del Cabo Jazz Festival and everybody on board had a magnificent time.

CaboRey, one of the proud sponsors of San Jose Jazz Festival 2018, presented their luxury floating facilities to offer three Jazz concerts during a night cruise around Cabo bay and the pacific side, as part of the previous events before the opening of the Festival on friday 16th at Plaza del Pescador in San Jose del Cabo. Cabo Rey made a special tour featuring two bands that performed amazingly for a grateful audience. After boarding the vessel, some people got to the top deck and other group went into the dinner salon, since this last group purchased the dinner option and got the opportunity to hear Tito Rodriguez, and the Shalom Band in the main deck. The band is integrated especially for this festival, with Tito Rodríguez, a seasoned Jazzman, Oscar Zensei, Javier Garagarza y Arturo Ramirez. They have plenty of time playing, but this was the first time the four of them played together. They interpreted some Tito’s original plays and some other musical compositions of Funk Jazz and Fusion but they also included traditional standards. This is the second time they play in the festival, the first time they came as “Psicodrama” and played original compositions. During our chat, I asked about the difference they felt about the audience of Monterrey, where they live, and the audience of Los Cabos, they mentioned that the difference is that in Monterrey the Jazz music is new to the people, but they are very open to hear any artistic proposal. In Los Cabos the majority of the public comes from the United States and they have the jazz immersed in their culture, therefore here in Los Cabos we have a more experienced audience.

Meanwhile Tito and his band played below decks, the band on the third deck played a fusion of Jazz. This was magical since there was a beautiful starry night and a very calm sea in the middle of Cabo bay. Tony Cruz and his band played Latin Jazz. It was an amazing experience; all the people had very good time, there were amiable chats everywhere and everyone was on high spirits. The service, the dinner and the appetizers on board the CaboRey were awesome.

After the first concert of the two bands, Tito on the main deck and Tony Cruz on the upper deck, some musicians of both of the groups gathered to play together to provide the audience with another set of incredible Jazz melodies. One more detail not to be forgotten is that the iconic date of February 14th, Valentine’s Day, was the time this event occurred. So everybody was remarkably happy.
