Black Smoke Barbeque (Closed)
Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, México
New on the restaurant scene and already earning raves as the best place for authentic barbeque, the rustic Black Smoke barbeque welcomes diners to dig in and not worry about messy fingers. Flatware, including steak knives, stands upright in a wooden box on wooden tables with rolls of paper towels even the most prim and proper will appreciate. Large dispensers of barbecue sauce (one spicy hot) allow diners to smother the various meats to their hearts’ content.
Start with a Soul Train cocktail made with tequila, grapefruit, and lime juice to wash down an appetizer of bone marrow served with crisp toast, a seldom-seen item on menus in Los Cabos. Other starters include stuffed Caribe poppers, chicken wings, and jalapeño poppers.
Depending on how hungry you are, there are sampler platters of varying sizes serving from two to six people with meats of short ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and chicken, plus sides of farmer’s potatoes, potato salad, coleslaw, and macaroni and cheese made with chipotle. Light eaters may prefer the asparagus salad with portobello mushroom. For those with a sweet tooth who still have room to indulge, desserts include a decadent chocolate soufflé fondant with vanilla ice cream, or an even more decadent deep-fried cookie. Although having only opened a few months ago, the scene is slowly changing to become a fun sports place to hang out with table games, cards, darts and a pool table.
