Cuisine: Mexican, Peruvian, Latin. The name Toro, meaning “bull” in Spanish and “tuna belly” in Japanese, sets the stage for specialties seasoned with Pan Latin flair. The Toro Latin Kitchen and Bar restaurant, by Richard Sandoval, is located adjacent to the Esperanza Resort along the tourist corridor near the Punta Ballena overpass. The Toro fine dining establishment features spectacular views overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Their fresh from the ocean oysters, clams, crab and octopus are all chilled on ice and beautifully displayed upon arrival. Steaks are served with small quesadillas, rice, beans, guacamole and freshly made tortillas.
Carne asada and the Argentina flap steak with Chimi churri sauce are very yummy. All dinners begin with the most delicious, hard to stop eating bread. ”It was my second time here. The staff is extremely professional, and oh-so friendly. The food is amazing. I had the Peruvian Ceviche, which had toasted kernels that made for a delicious twist. The Toro version of elote (corn) was spicy and superb and the prawns were also fantastic,” said Valerie Cordova Vargas, a registered nurse from the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California. Other tasty items from the delectable menu include the incredible octopus was, tuna/hamachi, scorpion sushi rolls, tortilla soup, shrimp and perfectly seasoned lobster enchiladas, as well as the most interesting and scrumptious pre-dinner beet salad; in which the beets are drizzled with a spicy Aioli.
The catch of the day fish is cooked to be delicate and flaky. Their sushi roll special of tempura shrimp with octopus and hot peppers is also considered simply delicious. And because it’s Cabo San Lucas, there is an air-conditioned area when hot conditions call for dining inside where it’s cool. Toro’s dessert selections consist of mini churros, tres leches, caramel cheesecake, chocolate cookie crust, along with chocolate and caramel drizzled banana ice cream. The restaurant also boasts a varied wine selection.
The Toro concept comes from acclaimed chef and restaurateur Richard Sandoval, recognized as the “Father of modern Mexican cuisine,” who has an international collection of 40 Latin American-inspired restaurants worldwide. At Toro Latin Kitchen & Bar, he masterfully blends Pan Latin cuisine with South American, Japanese and Chinese influences.
