Gloria Diaz Ochoa, has been the matriarch of her son’s restaurant for the past six years and on October 1, 2019, will host a grand opening of her very own restaurant on Miguel Hidalgo Street, near the Marina, called Doña Gloria. The small business restaurant is a joint venture with Mama’s Royal Cafe, which has been at the downtown location since 1991; serving a breakfast and lunch only menu from 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Restaurant Doña Gloria will be open for dinner between the hours of 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM. and offer a delightfully delicious menu that features an appetizer selection that includes chicken or beef Nachos, shrimp and/or fish Ceviche’, beef Empanadas, and sushi-style Tuna Sashimi. Other pre-dinner entrees consist of a small variety of soups that begin with Tortilla Soup, Lentil Soup, and chicken noodle soup; as well as vegetable, shrimp and seafood soup. Empanadas are a small Calzone-style Mexican dish.
The Mexican choices for dinner menu include traditional dishes like Birria de Rez, Menudo, Pozole tamales, carnitas, Mole’, quesadillas, Chiles Relleno, and tacos. All dinner choices are served with rice, beans, and guacamole. The enchilada selections include the tasty Mexican dish covered in red or green salsa sauce.
Dona Gloria also features a Molcajete dish that includes beef, shrimps, Nopales (cactus) cheese, pineapple, beans, rice, and onions thats is served with fresh avocado guacamole. A Molcajete is a gray stone bowl that is served sizzling hot. The Mexican combination plate consists of mouth-watering Sonora flank steak, served with accompanying chile, cheese, Mexican salsa, beans, rice, and chicken enchiladas. For the non-vegetarian customer, Doña Gloria offers a delectable selection of Rib-Eye and T-Bone Steak, as well as baby back pork ribs, and a grilled chicken choice. All served with a baked potato and healthy vegetables.
The Seafood choices are exceptional and consist of breaded shrimp, coconut shrimp, grilled shrimp, garlic shrimp, one kilo of unpeeled shrimp, as well as the fresh fish (catch of the day) and lobster. Other fish choices include breaded and/or grilled fish. All served with a customers choice of rice and vegetables or salad. The breaded fish is served with french fries. The International Menu items feature spaghetti with meatballs, chicken fettuccine, shrimp or chicken fettuccine, and shrimp pasta fettuccine.
For dessert, restaurant Doña Gloria offers mango vanilla ice cream, strawberry vanilla ice cream, and chocolate, along with lemon and mango ice cream selections. As far as alcoholic beverages go, the choices at Dona Gloria’s include lemon, strawberry and mango Margaritas, Mojitos, Mango Daiquiris, Pina Coladas, and a host of other appetizing drinks with unique names and flavorful ingredients (Fuzzy Navel, Sex on the Beach, Pink Lady, and Metropolitan).
