Cabo del Sol Golf

Cabo del Sol Golf - Jack Nicklaus signature Ocean course - Tom Weiskopf designed Desert Course - Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico

The Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol is another Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, this one with 1.5 miles of oceanfront along the Sea of Cortez. Considered by some to be the most challenging in Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos, even those who don’t agree with this say it is of spectacular design and thrilling to play. Jack Nicklaus has called his perfect stretch of Los Cabos “the best piece of golf property in the world.” Golf Magazine named Cabo del Sol on its list of the “Top 100 Courses In The World,” and Pacific Golf Magazine has called it “one of Nicklaus’ finest creations” and the “Mexican version of Pebble Beach.”

Keep out of the desert, but if you get stuck, stay focused on the ball.” Of the nearly two miles of ocean frontage, 1.5 miles of it is devoted to holes six, seven, eight, sixteen, seventeen and eighteen. At the par three seventeenth, the golfer is faced with a 178-yard shot over a sandy beach and rock outcroppings to a small green framed by bunkers on one side and a drop to the ocean on the other. The finishing hole, guarded by desert and cactus on the right and rock cliffs leading to the sea on the left, is modeled after the eighteenth at Pebble Beach. A wonderful combination of natural beauty and brilliant architecture, Nicklaus says “Cabo del Sol has three of the best ocean finishing holes in the world.” Cabo del Sol is only getting better.

Cabo Del Sol - The Desert Course - Information & Statistics

The masterful Tom Weiskopf design takes full advantage of incredible natural surroundings while incorporating an enticing blend of par fours ranging from the teasingly short 329 yard, downhill fourth to the intimidating, into the wind 480 yard thirteenth. Highlighted by the panoramic ocean views on every hole Weiskopf calls The Desert Course “one of the most scenic courses” he has designed, citing the “natural beauty of the desert, mountain and ocean” as “an ideal setting and some of the best terrain for golf anywhere in the world.”   Ranked by Golf Digest as high as #5 in Mexico, The Desert Course takes you on a scenic thrill ride as it winds its way through lush desert landscape and canyon-like arroyos high above The Ocean Course and the Sea of Cortez.
