The restaurant is owned by Pablo Velez who is an active matador and chef for over 20 years will have you back many times because of the superb service and unbeatable prices which are hallmarks of “El Matador”.
Every seating space at “El Matador” articulates graceful accents of Spanish furnishings. It has an open-air patio along with a full bar. You have a wide variety of Mexican, Spanish, Chilean, Argentinean, French and California wines ranging in price from $17.00-$50.00.
The bar includes traditional cocktails or champagne for that special occasion. There is also a long list of Tequilas to choose from if that is your drink of choice.
The restaurant has a potent magic with wall murals and paintings by the artist Lemus along with various other artists. The Spanish murals are in vibrant colors and are admired throughout the restaurant.
This is more than a meal. You will have the pleasure of talking with Pablo if he isn’t off to Guadalajara, Leon, Aguascalientes or some other “Plaza de Toros” in Mexico participating in his passion of bullfighting.
He enjoys talking to all of his customers and wants to make sure your food and atmosphere is very special. You will know you are at the right place when Chef Jorge Gonzalez prepares your meal with only fresh and natural ingredients.
He prepares each meal with TLC. The appetizers range from $9.00-$16, salads range form $8.00-$10.00 (Caesar Salad made at your table), and Entrees range from $17.00-$40.00. Such entrees include but not limited to a Chateaubriand for 2, Rack of Lamb al Grille, Gambas de Tequila, Filet Mignon, Catch of the Day and many others to choose on this impossible to ignore menu.
Private catering is also available for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or any other event. LOCATION IS: Take the Transpeninsular highway (four lane highway) from the airport into San Jose, turn right at the stoplight Pescador sign then turn left at the street in front of Banorte Bank. Pass the Nuns Hospital (Clinica de San Jose) and “El Matador” is just past the hospital on the left side of the road.
