Cabo Experiences Country Music Weekend Courtesy of Bar Esquina and the Bahia Hotel and Beach Club

Toby Keith isn’t the only country music singer who loves Los Cabos (although he may be the only one to actually write a song called Cabo San Lucas), and Los Cabos seems eager to reciprocate. At least that was the feeling this weekend, as large crowds turned out at Bar Esquina, the signature restaurant at the Bahia Hotel & Beach Club, for fine food, fine drinks, and country music and honky-tonk atmosphere courtesy of Patrick Davis and some of his singing and songwriting friends from Nashville.

Country in Cabo

Singer-songwriters Patrick Davis, Corey Crowder, James Otto, and James Slater performed this weekend at the first Country in Cabo at the Bahia Hotel & Beach Club.

Bar Esquina is always crowded, of course. The restaurant is beloved by locals and visitors alike for gourmet pizzas and fine dining standards like lamb chops and filet mignon, and it also features great live music five nights per week. But rarely if ever has the place been jumping the way it was this weekend, with women gleefully dancing in front of the “stage” (set in a corner of the patio dining area) and seas of appreciative patrons around the bar. Davis and company performed Friday and Saturday nights, and they participated in a songwriting seminar on Saturday afternoon.

Davis is considered one of the best singer-songwriters in Nashville, having penned chart-topping hits for Jewel, Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum, and others. And he brought some very talented friends, including some of the hottest names on the contemporary country scene. James Otto—whose most recent album is “Shake What God Gave Ya” but may be best known for his hit “Just Got Started Lovin’ You“—was also on hand, as was piano-playing, bilingual singer-songwriter James Slater (he’s had songs recorded by Tim McGraw and Martina McBride), and singer-songwriter Corey Crowder, whose songs have been recorded by, among others, Kenny Rogers and Jamie Lynn Spears.

The Bahia Hotel & Beach Club is known for its memorable special events, which include underwater marriage and renewal of vows ceremonies.

The success of the first Country in Cabo only adds to the reputation the boutique Bahia Hotel & Beach Club is garnering for putting on memorable special events. Locals and regular visitors will also be familiar with the yearly stand-up paddleboard event Paddle to the End, sponsored by Cabo SUP, the hotel’s activities company. The annual weekend bash features a distance race and a beach blanket bonfire party, as well as the headline attraction, a stand-up paddleboard race to Land’s End and back to Médano Beach.

The Bahia Hotel & Beach Club has also been in the news lately because of its unique destination wedding ceremonies (it is the first hotel in the area to offer underwater marriages and renewal of vows ceremonies, with packages that include dive training and rehearsal, underwater decorations, and of course a seagoing minister).
