Although it has weakened slightly, it is still expected to be problematic when it makes landfall later today near Manzanillo, about 200 miles south of Puerto Vallarta, according to news reports. Because it is such a slow-moving front, it will linger along the coastline and dump considerable rain, with 6 to 8 inches expected in most places and as much as 15 inches forecast in isolated areas. Tropical Storm Bud is building down the western coast of mainland Mexico, about 600 miles south of Manzanillo. Pacific hurricane season starts early

The 2012 hurricane season got off to an early start Monday when the first tropical storm of the year was named. Tropical Storm Aletta formed about 550 miles south-southwest of Acapulco, according to the National Hurricane Service.
