Maria Corona Wows with Folkloric Show

Known for its authentic Mexican cuisine, Maria Corona Restaurant, part of the Baja Cantina Group, proudly presents an exclusive stage show reflecting the traditional dances, music, culture and costumes of Mexico entitled Mexico – Magia y Tradición. Every Tuesday and Wednesday evening, guests desirous of witnessing the culture of Mexico in a high-spirited performance by professional dancers and musicians can enjoy an authentic Mexican dinner and show in the open courtyard of Maria Corona. A 6-course tasting menu is served prior to the show typical of the restaurant’s menu.

The show begins with the beat of drums, fire and smoke announcing a lead dancer with an elaborate pheasant feathered headpiece entering the courtyard followed by 12 dancers with illuminated costumes that work their way toward the raised stage for the first of ten colorful and exciting acts depicting the heritage of the various states of México. The elaborate costumes, of which there are 125 custom-made for the 35 actors on stage are made of the finest fabrics with intricate and detailed hand-stitched embroidery. There are 700 pheasant feathers in the opening number alone. Handsome mariachi musicians in typical charro costumes perform lively favorites, while more zarapes and white petticoats twirl about and kisses are stolen hidden behind sombreros, in typical folklore tales of Mexico.

Maria Corona is proud to present Mexico – Magia y Tradición under the direction of Silvia Lozano, one of the most distinguished artists internationally recognized as a leading promoter of authentic Mexican folklore. With an  artistic  history  of  over  56  years  of  existence and  with  the  support  of  leading researchers and practitioners of folklore, dance, music and costumes of Mexico, Lozano’s  Ballet  Folclorico  Nacional de Mexico has  appeared  in  more  than  thirty  countries  over  the  five continents, receiving numerous awards.
