The inaugural ceremony of the first phase of the Koral Center took place on November 3 at a site located halfway between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo on the Tourist Corridor. Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto was the guest of honor, inaugurating the center in front of 500 people. The event was invite only and required a special dress code: ladies in cocktail attire and gentlemen in traditional white guayabera and dark trousers. There was a catered cocktail reception that followed the inaugural ceremony.

The well-planned event was organized under the administration of Alicia Cota Rojas, Koral Center concierge. Security was tight, but the well-trained staff directed attendees through registration, security scanners, and along a path leading to the ceremony site, where chairs were set up facing the podium. An angled aisle allowed for President Nieto to enter with his entourage for all to get a close-up of him. All stood to acknowledge his entrance while he shook the hands of those along the way, stopping to pat a constituent on the back, but never out of the circle formed by his security personnel.

The dais held a line-up of local dignitaries including those who spoke to the audience.

President Nieto addressed the crowd with a speech that required no notes. Video screens were strategically placed around the perimeter of the large space that will eventually house the center so that everyone had a close-up view of the speakers. The scheme of the Koral Center aims to pool health facilities, hotel accommodations, office, concierge services, shopping, wellness, and a gourmet food court. Already in operation is H+ Hospital, a full-service medical facility with state-of-the-art equipment, and the Hampton Inn by Hilton with 95 rooms, beautiful views of the Sea of Cortes, 1,500 square feet of meeting space, fitness center, and rooftop pool. The Koral Center is anticipated to open mid-2016.

Upon leaving, guests were presented with a brochure of the Koral Center that was designed by Mara Zapiain, who is in charge of branding for the center. The attractive and distinct design is of a microscopic sea coral in aqua on a blue background. By Sandra Berry.
