Hospital H+ Celebrates Grand Opening

grand-opening-hospital-h+cabo-6917-2April 15 was a day of celebration as the long-awaited Hospital H+ held its grand opening in Los Cabos. The new facility is located in the soon-to-be completed Koral Center on the Carretera Transpeninsular at km 24.5, midway between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Seven years ago the medical project was but a dream expressed in an email. Today the three-level-plus basement structure stands proudly awaiting those from all walks of life in need of medical services.

Paulino Davos Sayrols is the hospital Director, CEO, and co-founder of Hospital H+ and whose dream it was to construct such a facility in the Los Cabos area. With the help of various financiers, the dream reached its realization on this star-studded evening in a grand ceremony that welcomed over 400 guests including several dignitaries.

Tours were conducted by uniformed personnel including the trauma center, mammography, tomography, ultrasonography, digital radiology and imaging, blood bank, and critical care units. Juan Carlos Arriola, Director of Emergency Room (ER), specializing in liver and pancreas surgery, was on hand to answer any questions.

At present, the facility contains 16 spacious hospital rooms and 24 beds in what could be described as a luxury resort. The entire facility is upscale from the serene and clean blue and white color scheme, tasteful art adorning the hallways, to the state-of-the art equipment. Recovery rooms have built-in televisions, a fold-out sofa for overnight family members, plus a recliner chair. Emergency call devices are located strategically in the bathrooms that have fold-down seated platforms and handrails. Most rooms have an ocean view.

There are four beds in the Intensive Care unit. The surgical areas have three operating rooms and one for labor and delivery, plus a room for endoscopic procedures. Emergency care is open 24 hours for triage, observations, shock trauma, and diagnostic.

Following the tour, guests were directed to the adjoining rooftop area that eventually will house medical offices, but on this evening, it was the perfect platform for celebration with catering delivered by Eat Cabo, a strolling saxophonist, and flowing beverages. A large screen portrayed the ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the entrance doors followed by an outstanding fireworks display. The administrative entourage was later directed to the roof-top for welcoming speeches.

The Koral Center will soon be a “place that has it all, a place offering a style of life” with the Hampton Inn & Suites Hotel by Hilton, commercial shops and El Merkado that will house approximately 15 different eateries. The hospital is scheduled to be in full operation by the first of next week.—Sandra A. Berry
