CALL FOR SUPPORT COMMUNITY WORKING TOGETHER

Canstruction 2014 CABO OPEN CALL

In order to combat food poverty in the village, the Center for Organizational and Personal Development “MoRe” in Cabo, a Questro Foundation and Association of Human Resource Executives in Los Cabos and Puerto Paraiso mall made an open invitation to participate in CANstruction Los Cabos, an international competition with no lucrative pourposes.

At a press conference Assistant Director at MoRe Cabo, Dinorah Tallabs and Questro Foundation´s Operations Manager, Andrea Nuñez gave a little introduction of the second edition of this great unique event that has taken place not only locally, but throughout Mexico.

On September the 2nd  in Puerto Paraiso, participants will work in teams to create large structures made of canned food. The theme this year is Viva Mexico!, Attendees will compete for six awards and the opportunity to represent Mexico at the international CANstruction competition.

Onagh Ash and Elva Haro, Sarahuaro Foundation´s president and League MACA. C. respectively, were present to give testimony during the first edition of The CANstruction event in Los Cabos in 2013, where the two organizations were awarded the 8,174.00 collected cans, which are being distributed to benefit over 600 families with food needs.

As members of the presidium was further attended by Enrique Turcott, Operations Manager of Grupo Questro Hotels; Leonardo Perli, General Manager of Golden House, headquarters of the press; Director of Public Relations Puerto Paraiso Dorante Lopez and Guadalupe Campos, Director of the municipal DIF in Cabo San Lucas.

Schools, businesses, hotels, associations, engineers, architects, Baja California Sur, and the entire community can participate.

Rules

1. All teams must have a mentor (architect, engineer, teacher, etc.).

2. Each team must collect cans to be used.

3. Structures must have a maximum size of 3 x 3 x 3 meters.

4. Only 5 people can build. Time will be limited to 12 hours (8:00 am to 8:00 pm).

5. The Team must fill out an application.

INVITE:

6. Tags must be intact, they can not be lined or painted. No ornaments or anything other than non-perishable food are allowed.

7. Structure should stand by itself, things that can be used as base are layers of Styrofoam, cardboard or half inch wood.

8. Cans may be joined by adhesive tape, velcro, line, cable, suspenders, belts or any material that is easy to remove, No glue or some other method that affects cans or labels.

9. What will not be accepted: scrap metal, alcohol, glass containers, pet food, open cans or expired food.

10. The team must take the necessary security measures. The categories that will be awarded are:

Canstruction, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that promotes annual competitions design and construction using only canned food. In each city after the sculptures are exhibited and awarded, these are dismantled and the cans are distributed among the emergency food community.

Some of the cities in which CANstructio has been conducted are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, New York and Chicago in the United States; Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg in Canada.
