The fishing does seemed to have slowed a bit this week, especially this weekend as we had a couple of boats come back empty, but not everybody! The Striped Marlin bite was hot this week, so those looking for their bucket list catch did not come back disappointed!
Our friend Kaye Peters along with Dad Jerry and Cordelia fished on board RedRum with other friends David and Lisa. They had a pretty slow first two days out there, they caught a Dorado each day, but that last day, Tuesday, I did the “Marlin dance” for them and they released 4 Striped Marlin in all! They also boated a nice sized Dorado. I’m gonna have to patent my dance and charge for it in the future.
Another excited group were the Nord’s who also released 3 Striped Marlin, that was one per person and they boated 5 Dorado. The Erikson group also released 3 Striped Marlin. Michelle and Shawn Dole along with Kim and Matt Boutott fished on Tantrum and slayed it out there, catching 4 Striped Marlin and 3 Dorado. Check out the happy anglers!
Leighann Nunes and Lauren Franco fished for 3 days off of the ReelRum and they landed a Blue Marlin one day and so much Dorado Leighanne could not carry it out of the office by herself the morning she left! We had the Schmidt group on two boats on Friday as well as the Nathan Burkett group. Nathan’s group fared a little better releasing 2 Striped Marlin and boating some Dorado, with the Scnmidts reeling in a total of 7 Dorado.
Jerod Paul has been fishing with us all week, day one he caught some Dorado and day 2 his Mom was able to land her first ever Billfish, they landed 3 Striped Marlin in all and a Dorado. On Sunday he and pal Rob boated and released some Dorado.
We had Greg Nygren back this year with his group of people down for a company tournament. They fished aboard 6 boats. Now, the fishing was not the best across the board, 2 boats came back empty, Tantrum – team “Houston” brought back one Dorado. The honorable mention would have to be Team “California” who caught a monster 70 pound Wahoo, 3 Dorado and a Striped Marlin. Team “Oklahoma” on ReelRum caught the most fish with 5 Dorado and 1 Striped Marlin. Mark Payne and his group who were down for a Stay and Play package blanked on day one of their fishing trip, but Saturday, made up for it boating 5 Dorado.
Sunday was kind of slow, don’t know if it is the clouds moving in and the sprinkling we had last night, but it has made for a slow day today. Except for Rob Denis who fished alone today aboard RedRum. He tore it up catching 2 Striped Marlin, a Sailfish and 3 Dorado. Way to go Rob, next time, try sharing the love.
That about does it my friends. There are still plenty of Dorado and Striped Marlin out there just waiting to be caught! What are you waiting for?
