Cabo’s Top Talent Finals Tonight

Cabo San Lucas was awash in talent over the weekend, and not all of it was on display at the Baja International Film Festival. On Saturday afternoon at Puerto Paraiso, a large crowd of locals assembled to cheer on friends and family performing in the inaugural Cabo’s Top Talent contest.

The Grand Final for Cabo’s Top Talent contest will be held tonight at 5 p.m. at the Cultural Pavilion.

The scene resembled something out of a reality television show—think American Idol or America’s Got Talent—with judges grading the performances of local singers, dancers, and musicians, and photographers from the Baja International Film Festival media room at Puerto Paraiso leaning over the balcony like paparazzi to snap pictures of the contestants, many of whom were younger than the age of 10.

Auditions to determine the final 14 contestants were held Saturday afternoon at Puerto Paraiso Mall on the Cabo San Lucas Marina.

The aspiring artists of Los Cabos have never looked or sounded better, thanks to a strategically situated stage and a professional sound system, and of course the support from throngs of well wishers who spilled out onto the Marina behind Puerto Paraiso.

After a run-up period for enrollment at sites throughout Los Cabos, Saturday was the official audition for those seeking to participate in the Grand Final, which will take place tonight, November 18, at the Pabellón Cultural de la República. Entry fees were $100 pesos for individuals, $150 for duets and trios, and $200 for groups.

Singers, dancers, musicians, and artists of all ages are competing in the contest.

Fourteen finalists emerged from the Saturday auditions. They were judged to provide a representative sampling of the best talent Los Cabo has to offer across all age ranges and artistic disciplines. They will compete for prizes provided by the sponsors, which include Cabo Sailing, Chrysler, Dolphin Discovery, La Gringa Boat Tours, Puerto Paraiso, and Ultrafemme, among others.

Judges were on hand to provide support and constructive criticism.

There is no admission charge for tonight’s Grand Final, so feel free to come out and cheer our future stars from 5–8 p.m. at the cultural pavilion. There might even be a bit of red carpet left over from the film festival.
