When It Rains, It Pours

A tropical depression located some 465 miles southwest of the Baja Peninsula has brought much-needed rain to Los Cabos and surrounding region. The showers—with intermittent thunder and lightening—began late Monday night and have continued on and off since then. Some establishments have had to close temporarily to deal with leaks or other storm-caused damage, certain outdoor activities are on hold, and crews are working to repair any issues to area streets.

While the rain came as an unwelcome surprise to vacationers, it is one most residents are excited to see. Rain is extremely rare in Los Cabos, especially prolonged rains. And these showers, which are expected to possibly last into next week, will undoubtedly usher in about a month of even-better-than-usual travel conditions throughout the region. Waterfalls will be more bountiful, landscapes more colorful, and the pitahaya season more fruitful.

In the meantime, there are several options for vacationers wanting to stay dry. Warm up with a coffee from Bar Esquina’s Direct Trade Coffee & Bakery. Sneak a movie at Cinepolis (with the world’s best caramel corn). Or indulge in a spa day at Mar Adentro.
