Sushi Time Fish Report November 20th to 27th, 2013
Sushi Time Fish Report for the Week of November 20th to November 27th, 2013
We had some really nice weather this week. A light rain at the beginning of the week, but overall really just sunny cool pleasant weather. Normally, this time of the year it can get pretty cold but it is a great time to be in Cabo!
This week was pretty calm overall in boat charters but some good solid fishing with good action on a variety of species, with about 30 fishing trips provided this week by Sushi Time Sport Fishing, we had a 93.3% effectiveness catching fish.
Dorado continued to be the highlight of the week with great results on 8-15 pound fish perfect for lots of the light tackle folks which come with their kids or do not have a lot of experience fishing, so this size of dorado makes for great sport as well as great eating for a first-timer. But for veteran fisher-folks we had some good results with 25–35 pound fish as well, which provide a great fight and lots of fun. Favorite area for fishing Dorado was form Finisterra to el Faro, mainly on hoochies Green/Yellow and Green/Red as well as live caballito.
I’m still amazed at how well we’re doing on billfish by way of sailfish and also highlight of the week striped marlin. With excellent results using fresh ballyhoo and Mackerel provided by our friends form Carnadera Denisse. Again, it has been a super event for some of our first-timers who don’t have a lot of experience and suddenly find themselves with a leaping billfish on the end of their lines! Most are getting released and have been in the 110-130 pound size, but some do end up at Malcom’s table at the Tailz Up Smokehouse, to be smoked and professionally packed for their journey to the USA.
With all the focus towards the dorado and other pelagic species, normally we just don’t see many rooster fish this late in the season, however, Libio on Sushi Time II had some big pez gallos caught and released, not many, but certainly enough to be a nice cherry on the cake, to top of a good day of dorado fishing. These fish have been a nice grade as well, 20 to 30 pound fish have been taken in the Pedregal area with lime green hoochies.
Other species caught this week where, bonito, skip jack and wahoo but we are still not seeing consistent action for these elusive fish. Not sure how much longer the species like dorado and billfish will be along, but predictions for the week show that the temperatures will remain constant so maybe our season will continue to hang on with the fish!
