Sunderland Pirate Ship Cabo Floats Again

sunderland-pirate-ship-cabo-4171aAfter spending 54 days on the bottom of the marina the Sunderland Tall Ship, the Cabo Pirate Ship is back on the surface in  the Cabo San Lucas marina.

Eight (8) large flotation bags were used to re-float the ship. Air was pumped into these bags to slowing raise the ship from the bottom of the marina. They even used plastic water tanks (tinacos) pumped full of air at the start of process to make room  for the positioning of the actual lifting bags and supports.

Once back on the surface the engine was checked and is in working condition.

They plan to have sea trials to further test the engine and stability of the vessel before motoring the tall ship to the marina in San Jose del Cabo for repairs.

The owners are asking for donations to help with the restoration process.

“We are working hard to recover this historical ship, investing all available resources to be able to restore her to the sea so she can keep providing thousands of guests the thrilling emotion of sailing on one of the oldest historical wooden English tall ships in the world. If you would like to contribute to history and help us in our quest to raise the Sunderland again, and have her back at sea providing unforgettable thrills and emotions that only tall ships like her can provide, we welcome your donations.”sunderland-cabo-flotation-4166a
