Los Cabos Winery, Cabo San Lucas

Los Cabos Winery

And  CABO WINERY RESTAURANT
loscabos-winery-cabo-logo_r3Charm envelopes the Cabo Winery Restaurant, a hidden gem located off the beaten path, just outside of downtown Cabo San Lucas, and a favorite stop for celebrities and the adventurous visiting Los Cabos. This is a labor of love for Robert Turnage—a Santa Cruz, CA native and longtime oenophile who first debuted the winery in 2009 and quickly followed up with the Cabo Winery Restaurant —and it shows in the expertly cared-for and curated selection of often times unheard of premium wines that complement their food, that regularly earns it high praise. Sites like Trip Advisor has rated them #1 in the steakhouse and #3 in the seafood categories for more than a year.

You arrive at an unassuming 2 story building with a wine barrel out front.  Enter the eclectic low light romantic dining lounge, and you’re immediately transported to the feel of a European villa. Plush Italian leather couches are interspersed with semi-formal dining tables.  Live music. On Wednesday, enjoy jazz singer Daline Jones, headliner for 10 years at the Starlight room San Francisco accompanied by Composer Diego Ramirez on piano. Thurs-Sat Viniccio,  master of song, piano, harmonica and Classical Spanish guitar. Sounds of Clapton, Croche, America, Beatles. On the other nights enjoy smooth background jazz music. Memorabilia of the Duke and exceptional art pieces such as Erte, Otsuka, Fredrick Hart and Nieman adorn the walls. For a special treat, make reservations to dine in the wine cave, surrounded by barrels of aging wines, offering a secluded, romantic setting for dinner. The audacious Turnage and his restaurant have succeeded despite all odds and the economy, growing rapidly thanks to the space’s warmth, and large following of returning clients every year, and a menu that keeps getting better. Their new Chef Alberto Machain has brought a few new additions to a menu that already boasts “melts in your mouth sea bass with chili garlic, succulent pacific lobster tails, and “fork-tender” filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes. The Winery signature salad stands out of the new additions. Organic mixed greens tossed with toasted pine nuts, fresh herbs, black sesame seeds, turkey pancetta, blue cheese crumbles, fresh citrus vinaigrette topped with Parmesan crisp. Their popular Pasta Del Mar, shrimp, bay scallops, Pappardelle pasta, truffle oil, black olives, cherry tomatoes, saffron cream, fresh basil, parmesan cheese, and the sea bass with mole is an absolute must. Pair all 3 with their crisp, clean, 2012 Sauvignon Blanc from Argentina. All the wines in their menu here, though limited, are exceptional, especially their own Library wines, 06 Private Reserve Cab, and their blend, 06 Melange De Trois  Cab, Cab Franc, Merlot from an Atlas Peak appellation vineyard in Napa, CA, brought to Cabo in barrels to age and bottle at the winery. They are hard to find but worth the search.
