The giant palapa roof and beautiful hand-painted murals bring the beauty of Baja indoors. In this new elegantly casual venue you’ll find the same great food that has made them famous and gained attention from international food critics. In fact, you’ll order from their signature menu wall just as you did in the old location. Everything from the menu to the staff are consistent in the new location. “Our most experienced chef has been with the family 25 years, the newest has been here fifteen,” explains manager and daughter-in-law Kelli Gotfried, “You can taste that consistency and tradition in our food.”
Tender steamed lobster is one of their specialties, or you can order over 75 other dishes from the traditional wall menu. Only the freshest ingredients are used and host Craig Gotfried guarantees your satisfaction. Don’t miss fresh seafood in one of their signature sauces. If you like just a little ‘tang’ try shrimp or scallops Dynamite done perfectly in a creamy chili reduction of mushrooms, chives and cheese; it’s a dish you’ll never forget.
Also popular is the Pungent sauce which pairs hot, sour, sweet and garlicky hues: perfect with shrimp. Shrimp or scallops with any sauce treatment are priced at $32. Other sauces include Diablo, an aggressive chili and cream reduction and WOW, a complex moderately spicy sesame sauce recommended for seafood or chicken. Also offered are more traditional Mexican favorites such as Mole, Veracruzana, and Chile Poblano. Thirteen sauces are available and may be combined with any base ingredient such as shrimp, fish or chicken.
Meat eaters can’t go wrong with the 16-ounce filet, tender and flavorful ($32). Other steaks include Rib-eye, T-Bone, New York and the very ambitious 30-ounce Porterhouse ($29). Also popular with regulars are the tangy BBQ baby back ribs ($30 for two racks) and the one-pound pork tenderloin ($22). Vegetarians will find a number of options including stir-fry ($18) or tasty quesadillas and chile relleno ($12 each). Vegetarian fajitas are also available for $18. All Mexican choices are made with traditional recipes the restaurant has developed over their twenty plus years.
For a real challenge, sit down to one of The Original Park’s five Mega Combos For Two. The Lobster Combo consists of over eight pounds of steamed lobster with four dipping sauces (market price) I dare you to finish. The House Special Combo includes shrimp and scallop stir-fry, New York steak, chicken, fish, breaded clams and all the usual side dishes ($62).
Come hungry, portions are gigantic and each meal is served with salad, yummy homemade soup, garlic bread, potatoes and coleslaw. The pea soup is especially tasty and if available should not be missed. Light eaters have the option of ordering off the extensive appetizer menu, many are dinners in themselves. For example the shrimp or scallop appetizer for $15 is your choice of any entrée preparation in a smaller serving. Half orders are available for most entrees as well. If you elect to share a meal you’ll receive two of each of the side dishes for an eight-dollar charge or receive an extra plate at no charge if you decide to divide the side dishes. Diabetics and others with special dietary needs will be cheerfully accommodated. If you have any room left desserts such as German Chocolate cake are homemade and delicious. A number of cakes and cheesecakes are offered.
