Cabo Wabo Cantina
Los Cabos Guide - Restaurant and Dining Review - October 2006 - by Anna Urbanik
So you’ve reached “Land’s End”now it’s time for you to experience the legendary Cabo Wabo Cantina. This insanely popular hangout has made a name for itself on the Cabo San Lucas dining and nightlife scene since 1993. Owned by the Red Rocker himself, Sammy Hagar, it celebrates creative Mexican fare and glowing cocktails to the sound of loud classic rock.
Sit in the open-air dinning room, take in the vibe from the humming Plaza de Los Mariachis, and let Chef Dustin Meeker get you started with generous servings of pan seared scallops or thyme-flavored stuffed button mushrooms. Continue with succulent jumbo coconut shrimp, a lobster burrito or beef medallions with chipotle butter all tasty and creatively presented. The dinner menu is jampacked with the chef’s Haute Mexican creations with entrees prized from $18 to $23 U.S. Lunch menu also available.
To wash it all down, take your best shot with one of the tempting house cocktails made with Cabo Wabo’s own tequila. Everybody’s favorite is the famous Cabo Waboritatequila reposado, Damiana liqueur and a splash of blue curacao served in salt-rimmed martini glass over “mucho ice.” The Red Rocker and Cabo Wabojito are equally fabulous, and equally likely to get you “Waboed,” as the celebrity owner would say.
On your next visit to Cabo, it won’t be the Waboritas that have you thinking, “For some reason, this place just seems so much bigger.” With the recent remodeling, this star powered establishment is tripling in size, expanding the restaurant and the boutique. You’ll dine watching the stage and the bar, where you’ll realize that there’s no better mix than rock, tequila, and Cabo San Lucas. In fact, it seems like the only Cabo landmark that beats Cabo Wabo in popularity is the world-famous arch.
On V. Guerrero off L. Cardenas, with a second entrance through Plaza de Los Mariachis. The restaurant is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.Anna Urbanik
