With ample parking nearby, the ever-popular marina location is considered by locals and visitors to be the equivalent of “Cheers”, the television series. Reasonable drink prices, especially in the newly expanded bar area, make it a “happening” spot to gather.
Appetizers of calamari, nachos, tostadas, and pizza are offered all day at “happy hour” prices, and are popular with the sports bar customers. The sampler platter is a group favorite for $10 U.S. The palapa-covered (palm thatched) dining room offers a relaxed and casual atmosphere where patrons gaze at yachts in the harbor and people-watch as passersby stroll along the marina.
Painted names of boats decorate the walls, and personalized T-shirts from various boats hang from the rafters. A varied menu of Mexican food, steaks, and seafood prepared just the way you like it, plus good management with an eye for what makes the customer happy, will make this a meeting place for you, your friends, and family.
Try the shrimp or fish of the day prepared blackened, Veracruz style, with lemon pepper, or diablo (hot). Bring your own catch and enjoy it cooked in any of the different ways. Pizza of varying flavors such as Hawaiian, BBQ chicken, seafood, or the usual cheese and pepperoni, is a favorite take-out item.
The second location, Baja Cantina Beach Grill located just steps from Medano Beach, is a popular family destination and more classy than some of the other beach clubs on the bay. The expansive deck under swaying palm trees with low-key jazz music in the background, plus the large round bar, make it the perfect place to watch the action on the water. With cruise ships in the bay, parasailing high above, and jet skis zigzagging on the water, it’s a great place to lounge on a beach chair under an umbrella and watch the world go by.
For breakfast, try one of the Aztec breakfast items such as the divorced eggs or shrimp omelet. Go for lunch and select from an array of sushi and sashimi, salads, fish tacos, or burgers. The dinner menu offers many of the same items as the dockside location, with an added flair such as crab appetizers with a mango-chipotle salsa, or the cream of pistachio soup. USDA rib eye and New York steaks run $27 U.S., $35 for the lobster filet mignon combo, and $44 for the seafood platter for two.
There is a children’s menu that includes coconut shrimp and spaghetti. Parking is limited at the beach, but don’t let that keep you from crawling, walking, or running to this location. It’s worth it.
