Nevertheless we also had many outstanding catches. We are actually experiencing one of the best blue marlin bites in years. First up for us this week was a 300 lb’er caught aboard Halcon by John and Aaron Overral from South Fork, Colorado – their fish took an ever popular “petrolero” lure six miles out from the 95 spot on July 18th. This same day Pisces Bill Collector released a blue marlin off of Land’s End for John Hayes from Houston. Next day was one of the toughest of the week with boats hard pressed to get any hook up. The following day though, July 20th saw Pisces C Rod release both a 250 lb. blue marlin and a sailfish off of Twin Dolphin for the Guinn family from Jennings, Louisanna.La Brisa had a similar size blue this same day that took a live caballito for Dwaynee Pusley and family from Texas. The Guinn’s were out again on July 22nd, this time on Knot Workin where they did really well to release another blue marlin as well as boat three tuna up to 110 lbs., which they caught on a kite twenty miles out. July 23rd was an exceptional day for the fleet, headed up by Kathy Morris from Austin, Texas who fished aboard Pisces Andrea and caught a 220 lb. blue marlin, plus two sailfish that were released – they were thirty three miles out. The most unique catch was a black marlin caught this same day by John May from Tucson, Arizona aboard Rebecca; the fish was not huge at 180 lbs. and was released along with a sailfish, twenty five miles out. Tracy Ann had a double header on sailfish plus a tuna for Andre Willitts from MI as did Scotty Edwards from Portland, Oregon aboard Bill Collector. July 24th saw the fish keep coming with a blue marlin and a sailfish released aboard Adriana for Norman Jevne and two sailfish aboard Andrea for Tim and Christine Millasch at the 11.50 spot. Pisces anglers caught a total of 38 billfish this week consisting of 9 striped marlin, 21 sailfish, 7 blue marlin & 1 black marlin.

OTHER SPECIES: After billfish tuna were the most likely catch, as boats landed between one and seven often sizeable fish. Other tuna caught ranged from 10 to 150 lbs., with our total catch being 49 fish. Dorado catches were very slow with just four caught by our boats.
