Forecasters say it will build in intensity this afternoon and evening to Category 2 status.<\/p>\n<p>The hurricane is well south of Baja California Sur and no impact is expected in the Los Cabos area.<\/p>\n<p>However, the National Hurricane Center has released a statement saying a dangerous storm surge is expected to produce significant coastal flooding to the north and east of the center of the storm along mainland Mexico. It will be accompanied, they say, by large and destructive waves.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters are also saying the coast can expect rainfall accumulations of 3 to 5 inches with Chiapas, Guerrero, and northern Oaxaca possibly receiving as much as 10 inches of rainfall. Southern Oaxaca can expect isolated cloudbursts dropping up to 15 inches of rainfall.
