The celebratory metaphor seemed particularly apt, however, at the annual Colegio Papalotl organized book fair, held last Thursday evening, January 30, at the <a title=\"Baja International Film Festival\" href=\"https:\/\/www.loscabosguide.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/2nd-annual-baja-film-festival-opens-in-cabo-san-lucas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pabell\u00f3n Cultural de La Rep\u00fablica<\/a> in Cabo San Lucas.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did the school-sponsored event offer a variety of affordable books in English and Spanish to the hundreds of locals who attended but there was also an entertaining presentation for parents designed to promote reading in the home as well as a look at local fine arts courtesy of a painting retrospective and live performances from area dance students.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3636\" style=\"width: 129px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.loscabosguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Juan-Banuelos.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3636\" class=\" wp-image-3636   \" alt=\"Juan Banuelos\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loscabosguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Juan-Banuelos.jpg\" width=\"119\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.loscabosguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Juan-Banuelos.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.loscabosguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Juan-Banuelos-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 119px) 100vw, 119px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3636\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Lejos de Ti&#8221; is one of more than two dozen paintings included in Del Mar, Erotismo y Fantas\u00edas, the pictorial retrospective for local artist and teacher Juan Ba\u00f1uelos.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The book sale tables and dance performances were set amid a visually engaging backdrop of paintings by noted local artist and teacher Juan Ba\u00f1uelos. The artist&#8217;s pictorial retrospective, titled <em>Del Mar, Erotismo y Fantas\u00edas<\/em>, opened on January 17 at the Pabell\u00f3n Cultural de La Rep\u00fablica, and it features approximately 30 pieces dating back to 1997. The paintings are primarily mixed media on canvas, and provide an excellent introduction to Ba\u00f1uelos&#8217;s vivid palette and stylized explorations of the land and seascapes of Los Cabos.<\/p>\n<p>Live performance highlights included presentations from contemporary dance school Salon Fama, as well as memorable showcases for ballet students from the Casa de la Cultura in <a title=\"Cabo San Lucas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.loscabosguide.com\/cabosanlucas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cabo San Lucas<\/a>, taught by Perla Pulido of Ballet Pearlformance.
