The Cape, A Thompson Hotel opens in Cabo

the-cape-cabo-thompson-hotelAll of Los Cabos is abuzz about the opening of The Cape, A Thompson Hotel at Km 5 on the Tourist Corridor just outside Cabo San Lucas. The VIP Press Party on Friday, July 17 was meant to impress and indeed it did. The response to attend overwhelmed even the planners from the looks of the mile-long line of cars waiting to enter the gates of the hotel. Once inside it was nothing short of luxury personified, from the expansive lobby to The Roof Top on the 6th floor where the approximate 150 guests mixed and mingled while ogling the stunning ocean, mountain and city views from the top-of-the-world platform. Comfortable sofas, poufy floor chairs and draperies create conversation spaces with chic sculptured lamps shedding just enough light for intimate indulgence in signature cocktails, house spirits and Japanese whiskeys from the centered round bar.

Architect Javier Sanchez from Mexico City created a contemporary style imbued with Mexican artistry while Mariabel Gomez Vazguez can take credit for interior design. Hotel rooms have private balconies, some with private plunge pools. Manta is one of the several restaurants within the hotel with a double entendre: manta ray focuses on seafood and the Spanish interpretation meaning blanket, or comfort, serving an infusion of Mexican and Pan-Pacific cuisine. A more casual eatery is The Ledge offering Tex-Mex fare at the beach. The Lobby Lounge is the perfect rendezvous before or after dinner.
