Customer review from Michelle D. - Jan 18, 2010, 10:03 AM

I am currently in Cabo and had the pleasure to take a sunset tour on the Tlaloc sailboat on Saturday evening.

Before arriving in Cabo I attempted to gather information on this forum regarding this company/vessel and was what I found was limited. Actually, even after arriving in Cabo and asking around it was difficult, partly because I could not pronounce the name correctly coupled with the language barrier. Anyway, I thought I would write a review of the cruise and give it BIG thumbs up for anyone else who may be considering booking with them.

Firstly, the main reason I was looking at the Tlaloc is that the Los Cabos Guide had a very nice special on the vouchers, but having sailed with them I would do it again with or without the coupons. The “special tour” set up for voucher users was advertised to be 2 hours at anytime of the day you wanted, including snacks, national drinks and beer, for four people. This is a private tour so you choose the time and the itinerary, although they make suggestions if you don’t know when and where are best.

I prearranged the tour online through their website contact information. They were a bit slow to respond however I was contacting during the holidays so perhaps that was part of the issue. I have since learned that the owner’s wife is the person who responds to these online inquiries and she is Mexican with limited English and uses a translating program – this is helpful to know after you try to read some of the strange responses that come back! Anyway, we were to arrive to the dock at 3:40, depart at 4:00 and return at 6:00pm.

I have to say that this was by far the best sunset cruise I have been on. The cruise was amazing; the deck hand (?) Hector (or Hector the protector as he introduced himself) was charming, funny, knowledgeable, fluent in English and most importantly he didn’t let a glass get empty. The captain was more limited in his English but was quite capable and made me feel very safe – he did laugh along with some of our jokes so maybe knew a little more English than he let on! We were a group of four women and I think they were having as much fun with us as we were because we ended up with a little extra time arriving back a bit after 6:30 so we could sail through the bay on the way back to get some photos.

It was beautiful sunset and they timed their positioning perfectly for the best photo opportunities. I would definitely recommend this charter to those who want a more personalized experience without all the crazy parting and goofy games that are on some of the bigger booze and/or sunset cruises. They also do morning or afternoon sails. If not using the vouchers for four people for four hours was $399 with lunch and open bar – a better price for sure but using the vouchers on the special only cost me $175 for the four of us.

The Tlaloc is a 33 foot sailboat that was in good shape and was quite comfortable for the four of us. I don’t know that I would sail with many more people as I do not like feeling crowed or like you constantly have to move out of the way for people to move around comfortably. There was a good amount of space downstairs in the salon but that isn’t why you are on a sailing charter in Cabo!

Sorry for the length I wanted to give as much info as possible since it was hard to find anything on this charter. If you are considering this sail, just do it, I think you will love it. I will defintely do it again.
