Handcrafted tablecloths and tree-strung ornaments provide a bit of local color, but Stop Light isn’t selling flash or “front.” The fare, billed simply as “comida mexicana,” is the prime attraction, and the kitchen staff delivers exactly what the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus promise: generous portions of traditional Mexican cuisine, deliciously prepared, and expertly served.

Morning attractions at the popular eatery, which is conveniently located just behind Office Depot in Cabo San Lucas, include the usual array of omelets and “huevos al gusto” (eggs any way you like them) options, as well as no less than five styles of chilaquiles—one of México’s most reliable hangover cures—plus pan francés (AKA French toast), hot cakes, plates of fresh fruit, coffee, and orange juice.

Lunch and dinner menus are the same, both showcasing a signature variety of traditional Mexican soups, appetizers, salads, and entrées. For starters, dig your spoon into some sopa de tortilla or caldo de res (birría and menudo lovers will have to wait until the weekend) before progressing to a salad course of ensalada verde (green salad), a tasty, heart-healthy mix of lettuce, cucumber, avocado, and green bell pepper served with dressing on the side. Don’t worry about the little ones, by the way, since they’ll be happy feasting on fish or chicken fingers.
