Handcrafted silver and earthenware articles abound in Los Cabos, too. Plates and trays are perhaps most traditional and commonly seen in stores, in kiosks, and sold by vendors on the streets. You can choose from brightly colored designs of flowers, of caricature Mexican folk art, and intricate geometrics. Almost every vendor sells plates, bowls, pitchers, and glassware that you will surely use over and over. Each piece says “Mexico.” If you are ready to buy pieces of Talavera, the individually crafted earthenware that are hand-painted and authenticated by signature and factory stamp, you’ll have to go into stores that carry such. Most of these stores will ship for you, and genuine Talavera is a very special remembrance of your trip to Los Cabos.
Other street vendors carry trinkets that will be perfect gifts for little ones and pals back home. The hand puppets, baskets and bags, purses, hats, serapes, blankets, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, or rings and faux stones, are fun and very handy, whether to boast here or pack up in your suitcase. You will surely find the right style, color, and fit for your Mexican souvenirs. And you won’t have to pound the pavement much more than a couple of yards to have a great shopping experience. But take time to get off the beaten path a bit and explore the side streets and alley-ways, where you can come upon other artisan shops for leather, cotton and linen clothing, and unique wall-hangings.
