The idea for the hotel was first conceived by Luis Coppola Sr. during his first visit to Southern Baja in the mid 1950's. Senor Coppola worked with architect Marco Antonio Monroy to design a hotel that would be known as an architectural landmark. The original hotel is built into a rock cliff and has been acclaimed by Architectural Digest magazine for its detailed stonework and for the way in which it compliments the natural surroundings.
