Peacock's
Los Cabos Guide - Restaurant and Dining Review - January 30, 2007 - by Carol Billups.

There’s only one word to describe this Cabo landmark: SPLENDID. Peacock’s offers not only scrumptious fine dining, but also magnificent service in an elegant yet welcoming setting. The outdoor courtyard with fountain and whimsical bar or the interior dining room with cozy fireplace both provide the backdrop for some of Cabo’s best and most consistent dining.

Specializing in ‘Mediterranean-Latino’ cuisine you’ll find something on the menu for even the pickiest palate. Start your meal with a unique appetizer: the Sautéed Lobster Dumplings are an amazing fusion of local lobster, shallots, butter, herbs and mild chipotle peppers wrapped in a Chinese dumpling ($13). Also featured are the Salmon Tartar Tower: diced salmon tartar served in layers on laminated green apples ($10), and Sashimi “Isla Maria”: fresh seafood and scallops in cilantro ginger dressing ($9).

Locals also favor the organic Salad Citrico, which features locally grown organic lettuce, basil, mint, grapefruit and oranges with a honey mustard and basil dressing ($7). Traditional Caesar Salad and soups are also offered.

The award-winning signature entree is Shrimp Sin Fronteras (without limits), and if you love shrimp it will spoil you for more ordinary dishes. Citrus-marinated extra large shrimp are flash grilled and served over a mashed plantain (macho banana), and topped with a relish of black beans infused with orange liquor. Delicious! A generous portion priced at $32.

Pastas include Linguini with Chicken Breast, dressed with sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, and fresh basil-cilantro pesto ($18) and Penne Pestifredo with shrimp, pesto and alfredo sauce ($20). You’ll find fresh fish prepared blackened ($20), ‘A La Antigua’ sautéed in butter and topped with a white wine mustard sauce ($21), and grilled Del Patron ($20).

Landlubbers will enjoy juicy New York steak grilled with buttery cilantro ginger or green peppercorn sauce ($32). For a more local flavor, consider Arrachera “Trio”, grilled marinated arrachera beefsteak rolled and filled with mild poblano pepper and melted cheese served over a chili mulatto sauce ($20). An excellent dish, the Chicken Breast Roll features grilled chicken wrapped with bacon and served with freshly prepared cilantro sauce – mild and flavorful ($17). Whatever you order it will be served with style under the watchful eye of long-time manager Lorena Luna.

Save room for dessert: Peacock’s is famous for its elegant pastries. Whether you choose my favorite, Framboise with White Chocolate Mouse, a sinfully delicious concoction of white chocolate mouse layered Napoleon-style with crisp puff pastry and delightful raspberry sauce ($7) or any of their other to-die-for creations you’ll never be disappointed. Many returning chocoholics find it difficult to concentrate on the rest of their meal!

Whether this is your first or fortieth visit to Cabo, Peacock’s is not to be missed. Located on Paseo del Pescador next door to the Melia Cabo San Lucas Resort, Peacock’s is open nightly from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with live music from 7 p.m. Seating capacity is 150 with group seating for 220; reservations almost certainly necessary. Call (624) 143-1858. Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards accepted. Full bar and extensive wine list.
