Two-for-one happy hour runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with non-stop stage entertainment for the young-at-heart aged 18 to 99. Join in drinking, bikini, and dance contests with a live DJ. Mr. Big Johnson, the host is reputedly a former Vegas Chip and Dale hunk and a show all by himself. He dispenses tequila shots from bandoliers of shot glasses and leads dancing partiers on a conga line through the restaurant.
Something you surely want to miss is all 300 pounds of Mr. Big Johnson lap dancing on some unfortunate contest winner. The food, vistas of the boats and sun worshipers frolicking in the water or partying onstage, make Mango Deck one of THE places to experience in Cabo. Although definitely a place NOT to write home to Mom about, it’s perfect for celebrating a birthday, bachelor/ette party, or an off-the-wall anniversary dinner or business meeting. Bring your camera.
Got a hang over? Mr. Big Johnson’s recommended cure is to “keep drinking.” Breakfasts are served to orderAmerican or Mexican style. Get back-home-style omelets, scrambled eggs with ham and hash browns or with chorizo (Mexican sausage), arrachera beef and beans. The Palette of Fruit plate, loaded with fresh local seasonal fruits is a perfect way to start the day.
Diners enjoy an endless supply of tortilla chips with a delicious salsa calibrated for Gringo taste buds. The dip was mildly addictive and I had a second bowl brought over. Appetizers include standard fare such guacamole, chicken or fish fingers, a fresh shrimp cocktail, smoked marlin, Buffalo wings and chicken quesadillas.
The seafood or tortilla soups are something you CAN write your mother about. (Just forget you ever saw Mr. Big Johnson.) Mexican main course entrees include chicken, beef or shrimp fajitas, and your choice of a chicken or flank steak Molcajetea uniquely Mexican creation with meat, cheese, onions, chilies, cactus, and more simmering in a picante (mildly spiced) broth, served in a black volcanic stone bowl. Enough for two, quite delicious and a real cure for that hang over.
The Seafood Fettuccini comes loaded with fresh shrimp, fish, scallops and whatever other delicacies the boat brought in that morning. You can order jumbo shrimp, fish filets, or red snapperprepared in any style. Traditional steaks such as Rib Eye, New York and Filet Mignon are tender and cooked just right. A full bar in the restaurant terrace dispenses buckets of beer on ice, great tropical drinks, and tequila shots that will kill you all day long. The smooth Mango Deck mango margaritas go down easy, and so will you.
