A pleasantly surprising spot, located along the water’s edge behind Plaza Bonita in Cabo, is Pochos Bistro. The element of surprise found in this sophisticated eatery lies in the story of how it came to be. The owner, Carlos, originally a proprietor of a small fishing fleet here, saw such success taking visitors out fishing that he wanted to offer customers an additional service: a place to cook and enjoy their fresh catches. Hence, Pochos Bistro was born.

Although the establishment is casual, quite small and seemingly ordinary at first glance, the food itself is nothing short of delectable. Presentation is the name of the game here, but within seconds of the first bite, it becomes clear that it’s not just about that. Aside from their “you catch it, we cook it” for a nominal fee, Pochos Bistro offers an international menu with plates so visually pleasing that it rivals some of the most renowned restaurants in Los Cabos. Appetizers include oysters, cheese ravioli, ceviche, and stuffed prawns, which are to die for and come loaded with goat cheese, tomatoes, and olive oil.

For lighter eaters, or as starters, a whopping five soups and six salads are available, ranging $6 US-$14 US for choices of clam chowder, tortilla, or seafood soup, as well as shrimp or portabella mushroom salads, among others. Entrees run the gamut from tacos and fajitas and a Mexican combo plate to T-Bone and other fine cuts of meat, and even shrimp specialties.

Main dishes vary $18 US- $32 US, with lobster tail priced at $40 US. Hungry seafood fans can opt to splurge on the surf and turf combo for two, priced at $75 US, which includes an astounding variety of catch of the day, shrimp, lobster, steak, and crab cakes. Order the flambéed bananas for dessert and become the envy of everyone within a half-mile radius.
