Tucked into a secluded open-air garden of San Jose’s historical downtown district you will find Mi Tierra. Dedicated to preserving a classical Mexican experience, the structures, atmosphere, and cuisine take you back to a time of old world charm and hand-crafted specialties.
Upon arrival, you are led down an old stone path to a secluded and intimate outdoor dining terrace with ambient music softly playing in the background. The quaint ninety person restaurant is decorated not with authentic Mexican bright colors, but rather softer hues from a more classical period in Mexico’s history.
One of the nicest features of Mi Tierra is its location off the main road, away from the hustle and bustle. Everything Mi Tierra delivers, from the hand sewn linens made in Oaxaca to the homemade tortillas prepared by a local Los Cabos grandmother, culminates to an extraordinary experience.
The restaurant serves traditional Mexican cuisine, as well as chicken, beef, pork, and fish dishes.
Begin with Tostadas de Camaron o Marlin ahumado, three crispy corn tortillas topped with shrimp or smoked marlin, cooked in a grilled tomato and toasted pepper sauce, and topped with a guacamole dressing. The Ensalada de Queso Oaxaca, is a unique dish, featuring Oaxaca cheese strips rolled in red lettuce, and lightly drizzled with a Jamaica vinaigrette. For the main course, the Cochinita Pibil comes highly recommended.
Indulge in succulent, oven roasted pork loin, marinated in an adobo sauce with a blend of chilies, spices, and oranges. The Pez de la Huerta, another great dish, features a fresh filet of sea bass, glazed with a tasty mango and Habanero pepper sauce, and served over a bed of mashed potatoes. The Mole de Gallina Tierna is also a must, with homemade mole mixed with a blend of twenty five unique ingredients and flavors. Mi Tierra is open from 12 pm to 10 pm daily.
