Bisbee’s Results
CThe 27th Annual Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament, which took place in Cabo San Lucas October 23-27, had 166 teams angling for upwards of $4 million in prize money, continuing the Bisbee’s tradition of presenting the richest fishing events in the world. This was the Black & Blue’s most international event ever with teams from Australia, Brazil, Bermuda, Canada, Costa Rica, Chili, Tahiti, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia and the Ukraine, Switzerland, the U.K., and 47 U.S. States. The largest fish caught this time was a 620 lb. blue marlin, and the largest team purse was $1,421,752, making it the second-largest award handed out in Bisbee’s history. Marina at Puerto Los Cabos
One of the most anticipated projects in Baja, the Marina at Puerto Los Cabos, is scheduled to open November 2007. Featuring 430 slips and a wide range of activities and entertainment, it will be the hub of the development and the largest privately constructed marina in México.
ARTOSAN ECO-CAFÉ SERIES
The Todos Santos non-profit organization, Artosan, launched its Eco-Café series on December 18, 2007 with Professor Ernesto Ramos speaking on the origin of the Gulf of California. Other experts are scheduled to continue the series through April 2008. This series is a unique opportunity to interface on such topics as the geology of the Baja, indigenous turtle habitats, the Sea of Cortez, and the distinct eco-systems here including dunes, oases, palm groves, and more. BAJA 1000 40th. Anniversary
This year marked the 40th anniversary of the always anticipated desert race, the Baja 1000. Around 400 vehicles signed up for this annual off-road race that began in Ensenada, Baja California, and ended in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, cruising from the Pacific Ocean coast all the way down to the Sea of Cortez and over to the Pacific once again . The competitors arrived in cars and trucks, on motorcycles and ATVs, ready to race in this internationally-televised event. The finish line was established at the soccer fields near Villa Del Palmar, where officials from SCORE Desert Series stood by to record times.
