Bacchus
Nestled in Plaza de los Mariachis is a picturesque Mexican courtyard reminiscent of an old town square. Located behind Cabo Wabo, and across from The Giggling Marlin, Bacchus is a quaint Mexican retreat. For breakfast, choose from either a 3-egg omelet with your favorite ingredients or one of the many different crepes, including their famous Crepe Suzette with orange juice and Grand Marnier. For lunch the authentic Mexican dishes are very appealing, especially the tamales. Other options are Flautas, Sopes, Tostadas and Chiles Relleños. Of course they have a wide variety of delicious tacos, burritos, fajitas, quesadillas and enchiladas. At dinnertime, it’s steak and seafood time at Bacchus and for steak lovers you can’t beat the Filet Mignon with baby red potatoes and vegetables or the Land’s End, which is Filet Mignon with lobster. The seafood is excellent and the Seafood K-Bob, a combination of shrimp, fish and bacon mixed with vegetables, is absolutely delicious. If Mexican food is not your style then you can always order one of their great Mexican style pizzas. Bacchus is a great place to watch people and absorb some of the local color just feet away from The Giggling Marlin and the excitement happening there every evening. Open from 8am to 3pm.

Billygan’s Island
One of Cabo San Lucas’ most popular beach bars, Billygan’s Island, on Playa El Médano, offers fun, fun, fun, day or night. Like its other beach bar neighbors, Billygan’s is the place to be for happy hour (in this case hours) from 12pm to 7pm daily. During these times you can expect to receive two for one drinks on any cocktail. The cuisine is international, but the atmosphere is extremely casual; bikinis are more than acceptable as well as expected here. Come in the morning and have breakfast, then ask a waiter for a couple of lounge chairs and soak up the sun, rent a wave runner or go parasailing. Come back and have lunch and before you know it, it’s Happy Hour, the reason you came in the first place! During Spring Break you can hardly get near this restaurant, so come early or avoid Playa El Médano completely. Either way, while in Cabo San Lucas a trip to this beach is a must for any meal of the day, but Happy Hour is highly recommended. For lunch, have a really good American-style hamburger and for dinner we suggest the delicious Shrimp with Coconut Sauce, all while you sip on something like a Shipwreck’d, a concoction of rum, amaretto and citrus juices. Sometimes Billygan’s features live bands during Happy Hour, where you can get down and boogie in the sand. Open 7am to 10pm and located next to The Office at the foot of Paseo del Pescador. Telephone: 143-0402.

Café Canela
Knowing that Café Canela is owned by the same people who bring you Peacock’s, O Mole Mio and Mi Casa restaurants, one must figure that the food is good here, and it definitely is. This marina side café on the Malecon in front of Plaza Las Glorias has a bistro feeling with fresh, healthy food and moderate prices. A bright outdoor eating area under a vine-entwined pergola is most inviting, especially when you can watch the hustle and bustle of the marina in front of you. The most expensive in North America; you can imagine the beautiful yachts that are docked right in front of this restaurant. For breakfast try their Cinnamon waffles or their Canela Breakfast. For a really satisfying lunch you’ll find wonderful twists to try like Blue Cheese Quesadillas with Smoked Tuna and Mango. Other delicious dishes to choose from are the Stuffed Pita with Chicken or Roast Beef with vegetables and garlic yogurt sauce. Caesar Salads are crisp and fresh and the Fettuccini Alfredo with Shrimps and Scallops in garlic cream sauce is delicious. They have good pastries and coffees, too. Café Canela is open for breakfast and lunch only, 6am to 5pm. Full bar and small, but interesting gift selection. Telephone:143-3435.

Calima Restaurant
Located at the Playa Grande Resort on the Pacific Ocean side of Cabo San Lucas, the Calima Restaurant is situated on a magnificent beach. Take pleasure in a great dinner while enjoying the powerful waves crashing on the beach or watch whales breaching and spouting close to shore (in season). The restaurant is Mexican Hacienda in style and is elegant with its leaded windows, marble floors and spacious dining rooms and patio area. Calima is a Steak and Seafood restaurant and specializes in serving quality beef and seafood cooked to perfection. The rib-eye steak, shrimp, lobster or sea bass are all savory and well presented. A house specialty is the Calima Chicken Breast stuffed with shrimp and spinach and an original sweet and sour sauce. Beef and Pork Braid with Achiote is a delicious and unique dish prepared the way you find it in the Yucatan. What better way to watch the sun melt into the ocean in a flourish of colors as you sip a fine wine and enjoy splendid cuisine. Great food, fast and friendly service and a view to die for make this a must for those searching for romance. After dinner, a stroll on this majestic beach with the stars sprinkled across the sky are what memories are made of. Open daily 7am to 9:45pm. Telephone: 143-7575.

Casa del Mar Restaurant
In the Corridor at Km. 19.5, the Casa del Mar Golf Resort & Spa is a luxury Mexican boutique hotel with colonial leanings and a sophisticated ambience. Part of the giant Cabo Real resort complex, Casa del Mar is lush and serene, surrounded by extensive landscaping, many pools, and sweeping ocean views. The dining room is well appointed with wonderful views of the grounds and ocean. During the day beachclub and poolside service is available featuring a casual menu of seafood cocktails, salads, tacos, hamburgers and sandwiches. In the restaurant, seating is available inside or on the terrace. It’s a romantic place to dine featuring a continental menu of seafood with Mexican accents. Mussels with Cilantro and White Wine is a delicious appetizer with hints of pernod and saffron. Lobster Crepes with Poblano Sauce are a pleasant surprise for those who love lobster and want something different. For your main course consider Grilled Cabrilla (sea bass) filled with seafood, done to perfection, or Grilled Rack of Lamb, succulent and juicy. Lobster with a thick filet or any of the shrimp selections are highlights. For dessert, there’s a fresh pastry selection. Their well-stocked bar has fine cognacs, tequilas and an ample selection of domestic and imported wines. Open from 7am with a breakfast buffet; dinner is served to 11pm. Telephone: 144-0030.

Casa Rafael’s
Casa Rafael’s sits atop the hill above Médano Beach and the Hacienda Beach Resort in Cabo San Lucas. The first thing you notice about Casa Rafael’s is the color of the building. Hot Pink! So, it’s easy to find. After you’ve parked and walked through the entrance, a beautiful courtyard greets you with a chorus of singing tropical birds. Upon entering the colorful building you are greeted and escorted to one of the dining rooms. This will be the beginning of a complete dining experience to be remembered for years to come. Patrons can either enjoy a dinner on the patio or in one of the indoor dining rooms. The ocean room is spectacular with a marvelous underwater ocean mural, which adorns the ceiling and a 2500-gallon aquarium full of a colorful assortment of tropical fish. Don’t be in a hurry, though, because all meals are made to order. Sit back and enjoy the ambiance and a drink from the world-class bar. Discriminating palates will rejoice in the selection of delicious dishes available. The choice of hors d’oeuvres runs the gamut from Malaysian Chili to the fresh Smoked Dorado pate and the Overstuffed Seafood Potato. Their soups and salads are exquisite, too. Casa Rafael’s signature dish is the Lobster Medallions in Oriental Black Bean sauce, however, the Cornish Game Hen in a champagne sauce is also very popular. For those who demand the best in beef dishes you will not be disappointed. Black Angus beef is used exclusively and the Filet Mignon with Morel Mushrooms will satisfy your expectations. Try the Catch of the Day with capers and cream Sauce. The wine list is tremendous with an international selection of the finest wines available. Known for their margaritas and martini’s, the bar also has an extensive selection of all types of libations. Casa Rafael’s is also known for their superior service and very professional staff. To fully complete your dining experience, after dinner venture into the piano bar and sip on your favorite cognac while savoring a fine Cuban cigar from the walk-in humidor. The nightly live music is excellent and very entertaining. Banquet facilities are also available for special occasions. Prices here are expensive but not overpriced when you consider the impeccable service and quality achieved. Reservations are a must due to Casa Rafael’s winning reputation. Open in the winter season from 6pm to 10pm, seven days a week and from 7pm during the summer months. Telephone: 143-0739.

Cosmic Oyster Bar
Before having dinner at La Noria, plan on cocktails and appetizers at the very funky Cosmic Oyster Bar. After you have passed through the stained glass blue doors, you’ll have the feeling you’re staring at a version of the Little Mermaid or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. An array of Marlin, Dorado and Sailfish are painted on the walls, which are washed in a brilliant Caribbean blue. Other walls and the ceiling are covered with a variety of lovely mermaids and other sea creatures. Every-thing here is blue, green, turquoise and aqua with the most whimsical pool table you’ll ever see. Sit down, relax and have fun watching your favorite sporting event on the big screen TV or sit on the patio and catch some rays while sipping one of their regular or jumbo special Margaritas. You’re going to want to try some of their wonderful seafood appetizers such as the Blue Point Oysters, or the Mixed Teriyaki Brochettes with tuna, filet mignon, chicken and shrimp or the Smoked Tuna Paté with Sesame Toast. Located right next door to La Noria Restaurant in the Hotel Hacienda Beach Resort. Telephone: 143-0122 ext. 2107.

The Crazy Lobster
The Crazy Lobster, another Cabo San Lucas tradition, is located on colorful Hidalgo Street. A short walk from Plaza Las Glorias and minutes from all the shopping and entertainment that the downtown area offers, The Crazy Lobster is a casual, open-air Mexican restaurant and a great place to people watch. The main specialty here, as the name indicates, is lobster and more lobster. As part of the Cabo dining scene for the past six years and in this new location for the past two, The Crazy Lobster has become a favorite spot for that Mexican dining experience. Combos of lobster, scallops, fish, crab, squid, BBQ ribs or chicken are not only delicious but you can get any two of these items. The menu doesn’t stop there. Salads, soups, appetizers, Mexican food, tacos, steaks and more are all available. The Crazy Lobster has something delicious to offer, regardless of the time of day. The breakfast menu includes tasty egg dishes, especially the lobster or shrimp omelets. Lunch and dinner menus are the same with many choices for a variety of appetites with prices more than reasonable. Open 8am to 10pm. Telephone: 143-6535.

Da Giorgio Cabo
Perched on the cliffs of Monuments Beach overlooking Cabo San Lucas Bay and the famous El Arco, Da Giorgio’s Restaurant offers one of the most inspiring views in all of Los Cabos. Approaching this establishment, you’ll be astounded by its location and majestic view. Da Giorgio is a beautiful open-air restaurant under a huge palapa roof. Pools and waterfalls are terraced below the dining area creating Cabo’s favorite spot for watching the renowned sunsets. The restaurant itself is elegant and the atmosphere friendly. Da Giorgio specializes in Italian and Continental cuisine, with a menu of tempting dishes. If you want a great pasta dish (the Spinach Ravioli is delicious) or pizza this is the right place. For an elegant meal that is expertly prepared, go no further. The variety of entrées not found elsewhere make the decision of what to order quite a challenge. Here are a few scrumptious examples: Papardelle Al Granchio consisting of Papardelle with a cream, vodka and crab sauce; and a favorite is the Scaloppina Di Vitello Al Madiera, a tender cut of veal with a Madeira wine sauce which absolutely melts in your mouth. Seafood lovers aren’t forgotten here either, as there is a wide selection of fish, lobster and shrimp, but cooked in a way that will excite your taste buds as never before. Don’t miss the great desserts with a selection of mousse cakes or soft and creamy flan. Let us not forget the extensive collection of imported and domestic wines that should not be overlooked. Open for breakfast, during whale watching season you will not find a better place to enjoy these giants play in the waters off of Bahia San Lucas. Open from 8am until 10:30pm. Call for reservations, especially around sunset. Very popular with groups and weddings. Km. 5.5 off Highway 1 at Missiones del Cabo. Telephone: 145-8160

Da Giorgio San José
Palmilla Bay and the lights of San José del Cabo provide the backdrop for romantic terrace dining at this authentic Italian eatery perched hilltop at Km. 25.5 off Highway 1 in the Corridor. The entrance is through the large white arch next to Punta Bella, near the Pemex gas station. One of the first restaurants in San José del Cabo, this is the original Da Giorgio. Set on the second floor in a whitewashed villa with comfortable décor, the aroma of garlic and Italian spices will have you thinking you’re in a little corner of Italia. With a good selection of Italian vintages, entrées range from gourmet thin crust pizzas to steaks, veal, sea-food and a bevy of fresh pasta dishes. The Seafood Pasta and spicy Pasta Puttanesca are particularly good as is the Spinach Ravioli and the veal and steak dishes. Convenient for local residents from San José, Palmilla and the Corridor, it can be busy so it’s best to reserve a table outside as the inside dining room, while comfortable, does not have the sweeping views or ro-mantic ambience of the terrace. On the main floor is a bar with terrace if you just want to drop by for a drink and dessert. Open daily noon to 11pm. Telephone: 144-5304.

Edith’s
Edith’s, located one-half block up from Playa El Médano above its sister eatery, The Office restaurant, has one of the most beautiful views you will find in Cabo San Lucas. With a very friendly and well-trained staff, the atmosphere is laid back and romantic with light jazz softly playing and the starlit sky overhead. Edith’s (pronounced Eh-deets) is somewhere you will want to return to the next time that you’re in Los Cabos. From your hilltop table you will be looking out over the bay, the Sea of Cortez and the famous El Arco. The bright festive pinks, blues, yellows, oranges and greens along with the lanterns overhead all lend to the upbeat yet serene atmosphere this restaurant has to offer. The food is delicious as well, with menu choices of grilled steaks, seafood, ribs and chicken—there is something for everyone here. Tortillas and salsas are hand-made on the premises, a nice touch to enhance the savory selections and regular specials. In the winter, you will be supplied with a Mexican blanket in case you get chilly, but the trio of guitarists playing romantic music will warm you as well. The terra cotta free-standing clay fireplaces are a nice touch and you will be wondering where you can find one and how you will get it on the plane! We think you’ll come away thinking of Edith’s as one of Cabo’s most unforgettable restaurants. This is another favorite for private parties and weddings and they can be very busy so reservations are strongly recommended. Open for dinner from 5pm to 11pm. Telephone: 143-0801.

El Galeon Italian RIstorante
El Galeon is situated on the hillside below the Hotel Finisterra Resort overlooking the beautiful marina of Cabo San Lucas. Upon entering, you are immediately impressed by its ambiance and great view of the marina and the lights of Cabo San Lucas. The menu of antipasto and entrées is extensive, all with Chef Rafaelle Dimaio’s special touch. Specializing in Italian delicacies and fresh seafood, El Galeon will satisfy that craving for fine food and great service. Any of the antipasto selections are great, as is the Linguini Seafood. If veal is your thing then you won’t be disappointed with their Scaloppina al Limone (piccata), veal medallions with Marsala and mushrooms. The Gamberoni Provenzale, a generous helping of shrimp in garlic, tomato, wine and herbs, is savored while sipping a fine glass of wine. If beef is what you crave, you are in for a great treat, and a top choice would be the Medaglioni Raffaelle, a filet mignon with anchovies, black olives and red wine—try it, you’ll love it. If you just like your steaks grilled, they offer that as well with your favorite cut of prime tender beef. Of course, authentic pizza is also on the menu. Enjoy marvelous desserts and special coffees while listening to the nightly entertainment El Galeon is famous for, its piano bar. Ronald Valentino will entertain you with his virtuoso piano from Chopin to Cole Porter. After your dinner stroll the lighted marina. This is a fine way to continue the romantic mood that El Galeon inspires in young and old alike. Reservations are recommended due to the popularity of this establishment. Air-conditioned and open seven nights a week from 4pm to 11pm. Banquet facilities are also available. Telephone: 143-0443.

Enrique’S Steak and Lobster House
Located at Km. 4 off Highway 1 going east out of Cabo San Lucas, Enrique’s Steak and Lobster House has quickly become a favorite for tourists and locals alike. The first thing you’ll notice is the amount of cars and taxis in front of this apparently small restaurant. Upon entering the front door the restaurant becomes a spacious dining area with both indoor and outdoor seating in a garden-like setting. The Mexican am-biance and openness, which includes a small play area for children, makes this a comfortable atmosphere for families and a romantic setting for couples depending on where you choose to sit. This is a steak and lobster hot spot with Enrique’s famous combos for under $10.00! The specials range from steak and lobster or create your own combos of lobster, fish, BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, New York steak or shrimp. Dinners include soup or salad, fresh vegetables and a baked potato rounding off these tasty dishes, a bargain for the price. Don’t overlook the other options offered. This is a steak house and you will receive a great steak with a choice of New York, T-Bone, Rib Eye and Filet Mignon. For a change of pace, try the Quail in Plum Sauce, Swordfish Medallions with garlic or Lamb Chops with mint jelly. For the lunch crowd, Enrique has compiled an impressive menu of traditional Mexican dishes and some favorites from north of the border. Hamburgers, grilled Shrimp Tacos, Open Face Steak Sandwiches and Seafood Enchiladas are all savory and well prepared. Enrique’s has a great bar with all the traditional drinks and a full wine list as expected in a fine restaurant. The service is excellent and friendly. Gregarious owner, Enrique González, is always visiting the tables and his waiters are some of the finest around. Open from 12pm to 10:30pm. As Enrique’s popularity is widespread, reservations are recommended. Tele-phone: 143-2518.

The Giggling Marlin
The Giggling Marlin is a landmark located on Marina Boulevard in the center of Cabo San Lucas. Known as a fun place to party for more than fifteen years, you’ll know you’ve found it when you see the man hanging upside down next to the marlin. Upon entering the building there is a convenient espresso bar to help you straighten up a bit after the wild ride inside. Once inside this restaurant and nightclub you can’t help but notice the long bar running along one wall which helps create a saloon type atmosphere. Most people come to The Giggling Marlin to party the night away or to enjoy the risqué floorshow, but caution is advised, you may become part of the show. You will be surprised to learn that this is also a great restaurant serving awesome Mexican dishes in addition to succulent seafood. For a real cure for that seafood addiction, you have to try the Seafood Orgy, a combination of lobster, shrimp, scallops, crab and clams. What a feast! But don’t forget about the Mexican dishes, including several different types of tasty tacos or Fajita specialties. The menu is extensive with sixteen different appetizers, from Hot Wings to Oysters Rockefeller. The breakfast menu offers traditional specialties of México along with American favorites. As the name indicates this is a fun place to have a great dinner and afterwards you may find yourself hanging upside down from the fish scale or at the center of a naughty video production. A fun place to party with good food, The Giggling Marlin is open for breakfast at 8am and all day until 1am. Telephone: 143-1182.

Girasoles at Sheraton Hacienda del Mar
Here’s a comfortable yet casually elegant place to dine with marvelous 5th floor views affording diners a stunning vista of the Cabo del Sol coastline. Open for dinner only, appetizers range form Lobster Tacos to Ensalada Mexicana, a refreshing blend of carrot, lettuce, cucumber, jicama and oranges topped with a yogurt dressing. Fajitas are a specialty here with four versions to choose from as well as a good selection of seafood and beef dishes. Mahi-Mahi the Old Way, done with garlic and epazote herb is lovely as is the Salmon with Coriander Vinaigrette, all carefully prepared with the highest standards one would expect from a Sheraton resort. Service is prompt and attentive. Their full bar and exquisite dessert menu is just another reason to dawdle over the view, especially nice during sunset. Resort attire required. Telephone: 145-8000.

La Bamba - (Closed as of December 2002)
You enter La Bamba, inside Plaza Nautica in Cabo San Lucas, through a canopied walkway. The main dining area is in an airy courtyard around a center fountain, with several inside-dining areas with a lounge and bar. Much more spacious than it appears from the street, it’s style and decor is reminiscent of outdoor cafés in México City’s San Angel area. The menu is mostly Mexican specialties with steaks and seafood as well. We enjoyed the Enchilada Baja with lobster, shrimp, and fish in a light creamy sauce, topped with avocado. Steak Poblano, a nice cut of beef filet with mild chile poblano sauce is available along with Certified Angus Rib Eyes and New Yorks. The wine list and selection of tequilas is well rounded. For dessert, try the Caramel Coconut Flan. La Bamba is open daily from 11am to 11pm. Try the bar, La Cantina, with a nice atmosphere for an after dinner board game and drink.
