The Green Scholarship Program (GSP) is a not-for-profit organization serving as an advocate for young people with the greatest need. The Program assists minority youths granting four-year scholarships for higher education.
The Green Scholarhip Program provides much more than financial support, it also provides leadership skills to form active community members. The Green Scholarship Program believes in providing opportunities through education to empower disadvantaged people to improve economic circumstances and quality of life.
Mission Statement
The Program exists to help young adults through education to build a better tomorrow for themselves, their families, the community and Mexico.
Mandate Our mandate is to serve those who are in need of financial assistance because of their social or economic circumstances.
Education We have chosen education because we believe that it is the best means to empower people to become more independent and to participate more fully in the benefits of our society.
Strategy Our responsibility is to execute the Foundation’s core education programs effectively and to develop new ones. We realize that our resources are limited and, in order to be most effective, we must concentrate our efforts to make the most of our resources. We must also constantly re-evaluate and improve our programming, and change or replace non-core programs when we find alternatives offering a better combination of value and effectiveness.
Additional Programs
To maximize the impact of our new program, we feel an obligation to do more than provide scholarship aid to needy individuals. We also seek to identify niche areas which may have been overlooked or under funded by other educational foundations. We seek ways to amplify the impact of our programs through cooperation with other organizations.
Launched in 2006 by philanthropists Arthur and Patricia (Green) Pratt, the foundation has sought out deserving, under-privileged, high achievement preparatory level students in Los Cabos, providing them with tuition for university studies. The scholars are also offered the opportunity to travel to the US and Canada during summer break to stay with sponsors there who provide English immersion experience for two week or more periods.
In return, the scholarship foundation asks each scholar to maintain an 8.0 grade point average, attend weekly English language training and attend a monthly meeting where local community members come and speak to the students about future opportunities.
