SONIA AMELIO IN LOS CABOS

The Legendary Sonia Amelio Performs in Los Cabos to Benefit the San Jose del Cabo Rehabilitation Center

To celebrate the 7th anniversary of Cabo Travel Advisers and the 2nd anniversary of the Marquis Los Cabos Beach, Golf, Spa & Casitas Resort, Sonia Amelio, beloved prima ballerina and the world’s greatest castanet player, preformed in a magical setting at Desert Park in Cabo Real on the evening of May 28. The gala’s proceeds, which included a silent auction and performance by Mariachi Nuevo Sol Tapatio of Guadalajara, went to the San Jose del Cabo Rehabilitation Center. Cocktails and appetizers were provided by the Marquis Los Cabos, under the direction of Executive Chef Thierry Duffour.

The stunning location, under a towering rock face in the San Carlos arroyo, was elegantly decorated in white with live orchid centerpieces and thousands of twinkling white lights. Cabo Travel Advisers expertly orchestrated the event, which began at 7 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction, and continued until the wee hours of the morning.
Sonia Amelio, a child prodigy pianist and ballerina, has toured all over the world and is Mexico’s first lady of castanets, performing with symphony orchestras from Moscow to New York. Her career has spanned five decades. Ms. Amelio performed six interpretations of her famous castanet accompanying a diverse musical program featuring compositions from Brahms and Liszt, amongst others. After the performance, she signed copies of her souvenir book for an enthusiastic crowd.
