Cream Café & Pizza Bar Is That Family-Friendly Spot You’ve Been Looking For
Cream Cafe & Pizza Bar, The Shoppes at Palmilla, San Jose del Cabo, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, México
Cream Cafe & Pizza Bar, is a sleek refueling station reminiscent of the international cafés so often found in large cities that serve a particular neighborhood. In this case, the neighborhood takes in the upscale Palmilla, Querencia, and El Dorado residential developments in addition to the shopping center where it is located. Cafés provide a place where you get to know your neighbors. It’s a place where regulars gather and everyone is welcome. It becomes a form of café society. Cream fills this niche.
Manager Alex Mena describes Cream as a multi-concept operation: a coffee shop, a restaurant, and a bar. His staff is important to him, and he is proud of the team effort. It is obvious he runs a tight ship and is passionate about his involvement in the restaurant. He has little or no turnover in personnel, and their quality of life is always at the fore, which not only speaks well for him but also the positive attitude of the employees. A saying on the large mirror speaks volumes: “Where everyone has a place at the table.”
There are three distinct areas: the coffee shop, the pizza bar, and the outdoor patio bar. Opened in 2012, Cream underwent recent renovation that added some definitive highlights. New electric signage was installed, and the walls were repainted a sophisticated color scheme. A large red-tiled wood-burning oven is a focal point for the pizza bar patrons.
Although pizza is its specialty with custom orders welcome and lasagna is served, Mena is quick to say that Cream is not an Italian restaurant. In fact, the menu runs the gamut from a welcome jolt of Italian coffee to hot dogs to Mexican food to pastries to a full mixologist-hosted bar. It represents an international diversity that will satisfy the whole family from toddlers up to Grandpa. In fact, the play area off the outdoor patio is ideal to bring the kiddies and the outside area is dog friendly. The restaurant welcomes teenagers to hang out long after dark in its safe environment, and the patio bar area is great for watching sports.
There’s a daily meal created by the chef that is not on the regular menu. This creates a variety of offerings, which are especially welcome by the regular patrons and merchants of the shopping center. Other dishes on the menu include breakfast sandwiches, smoked salmon bagels, avocado toast, lemon bread, ham and cheese croissants, healthy salads, Greek yogurt ice cream, coffees and an assortment of teas, plus a smoothie bar.
Sunday brunch has become a favorite, especially among families. Mena is a family man, and he enjoys time spent with his little ones. The restaurant business is 24-7, so he realizes that Sunday morning brunch at Cream is a great way to spend time not only with his family but also for many families in the area come to enjoy a variety of breakfast dishes that are “Mexicanized” like pozole, huevos rancheros, and quesadillas with fresh tortillas made on-site, to the diverse offering of breakfast pizzas with scrambled eggs, bacon, and light marinara sauce. Live music creates a fiesta atmosphere 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
Cream Cafe offers a place for interactions between strangers as a respite from some of the alienation and anonymity of other eateries. Mena wants his guests to be 100 percent satisfied with their visit, guaranteeing the quality of service, the food, and a smile on their face when they leave.
Cream is open 7 a.m.–10:00 p.m. for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; the bar is open until 1 a.m. on weekends. The restaurant is available for private dinner parties, baby and bridal showers, and birthday parties. Delivery service is offered three days a week. Free parking and WIFI. Phone 624-172-6160 or 624-144-5279. Located in the Shoppes at Palmilla, San José del Cabo.
