Cabo Magic Sportfishing Cabo Fish Report April 01, 2014
Beginning with awesome weather we have been thrilled to welcome aboard some Return VIP Guests as well as the chance to work with some New VIP Guests. All of our crews are delighted they are given the opportunity, knowing there are many choices – and that you’ve selected us, and them, to take you on your excursion, we ALL are sincerely grateful.
WHALES, WHALES, WHALES! They are everywhere! So guests are reporting seeing them on the Pacific Side as well as Sea of Cortez. Lots of them and we never tire of seeing them. Please remember our captains will not get close enough for you to touch them and ask that ALL captains remember to maintain respectful distance from the mamas and their calves.
OK so we’ve got a whole lotta fishing going on . WHO is catching and WHAT are they catching?
First of all — Springtime is tricky .. some days are awesome and other days are frustrating .. Remember its the temperature breaks, and schools of bait, that what you are hunting are following. And this year we are doubly challenged by what appears to be El Nino conditions, which essentially means warmer waters, closer in, earlier than ‘usual’. But, since our two bodies of water that meet exactly here at “Lands End” are moving in opposite directions, its hard/impossible to accurately predict where to go ..
So here we go: Starting small and going large:
Our pangas are having a great time inshore despite some minimal catches on some days. They are pulling in DORADO (Yes indeed, Dorado inshore – please see VIP Guest photos) and landing SIERRA (Spanish Mackeral) some TIBURON (Sharks) which tells us there are fish to be caught by the way, some CABRILLA (Grouper – they are smart fish and live deep in the rocks) as well as a couple of nice JUREL (YellowTail)
Our 26′ Cruiser and 28′ Cruiser are doing very well for those guests seeking an economic choice that offers the amenities like dual angler chairs, head (bathroom – but I remind all guests charter boat bathrooms are not the place to read/primp/crossword puzzles!!) all tackle/gear/equipment needed and offer a Capt and Deckhand as well. They too are catching DORADO, SIERRA, a few WAHOO.
Next up are our 31′ Blackfin with Capt Luis is on fire!!!! He is one of the few captains who had multiple release of STRIPED MARLIN and boated DORADO this week. And aboard our 31′ Cabo Express we welcomed NFL Free Agent Bear Pasco and Rodeo phenom Blaine Linaweaver. Shout out to wives Michele and Katie .. btw Bear and Katie were in town on their honeymoon – Join us in wishing them a lifetime of magic love and happiness!
And moving on to the yachts – Captain Franky remains the most requested captain in all of CSL marina. He captains our 37′ Bertram which offers the stability of the workhorse of the sea combined with top of the line tackle, gear, and electronics so that all guests – be they anglers of cheerleaders – enjoy in comfort and style! True to his reputation, this week Captain Franky found the Striped Marlin for all guests – his weeks tally was CR&R over 20 Striped Marlin and boating numerous Dorado and a few Wahoo too. Guests enjoyed some wonderful fresh fish dinners this week. Please see VIP Guest Photos from Marc Tyson (ReadyMixUSA)
Also in the top ten is our Captain Roberto aboard 36′ Albemarle – his yacht is an Open Express and is FAST .. she flies at 40 knots wide open .. this gives Capt Roberto the ability to move around .. he found a school of YELLOWFIN TUNA 40 miles out and they boated limits .. the guests aboard were inexperienced and a bit hung-over (Bachelor Party) and asked to return early. We’ve been asked to keep this groups identity confidential – as is often the case with celebrities – actors – athletes – and other public officials and we will always honor the request.
Captain Carlos on our 38′ Chris Craft has rightfully earned his place of top ten captains – his vessel, a well maintained older boat, is comfortable for groups of 8 maximum, and best suited for anglers that don’t see bells/whistles and are happy to rely on Captains intuition and nearly 25 years fishing our waters. This week guests bounty included limits of SIERRA, DORADO and JUREL (YellowTail).
This weeks aboard our 43′ Riviera Sportfisher with Capt Juan guests were delighted with catches of STRIPED MARLIN as well as a unique experience of onboard massage – we are looking forward to a detailed review from Pam Deffer of Springfield, Missouri (see VIP Guest Letter)
Our 60′ Hatteras provided fun time for VIP Guests visiting from West Vancouver, Canada – Brent & Michele Billey and their children, son Max (9 yrs old) and daughter Vaux (6 yrs old). The day did not produce fish bounty, however the family was entertained with whales and lots of other activity.
And the corporate group of this week shout out to Johnson & Johnson – – they fished every day aboard various boats and then concluded the weeklong trip on Saturday evening with a sunset cruise aboard our 68′ Luxury Yacht – What a fabulous way to end the vacation.
