Special Gift for a Mexican Child

A Special Gift for a Mexican Child – Christmas all year long for sick children.

AMPLATZER® Septal Occluder device.

Septal Occluder device

A very small device wrapped as a gift this season will bring smiles to several Baja California Sur families. This special gift will enable a pediatric cardiologist to repair a child’s congenital heart defect.

Surgery to open the chest will not be necessary, and their hospitalizations will not require blood transfusions, intensive care, or stitches to repair the incision. The child will  spend only one or two days away from home. Although readily available at cardiac centers throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, these devices have not made their way into the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation (LCCF) cardiac program.

Each device (AMPLATZER® Septal Occluder) and catheter delivery system necessary to repair a child costs approximately $1,000 U.S.

The LCCF-sponsored surgical program has now successfully helped 21 infants and children since June of 2013, a piece of this cardiac program still missing is the funding of an interventional device cardiac program. The cardiologists from Los Cabos, La Paz, and Omaha, Nebraska, will donate all their time and experience to insert these devices; we just need to find resources to purchase the catheter systems.

The number of families in Baja California Sur  seeking help for their children’s cardiac defect continues to grow along with the situations’ complexity. This catheter intervention will shorten the list of those needing cardiac care.

Your donations are tax deductible through Los Cabos Childrens’ Foundation. Donations given by check should read ¨LCCF – Cardiac Intervention Fund¨ so they are restricted to these children and this program.
